The Program Coordinator position reports directly to the Assistant Dean and Director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is part of the division of Student Life at Maryville University. Currently, the Diversity and Inclusion staff consists of an Assistant Dean/Director, two Program Coordinators and a graduate assistant.

The Program Coordinator for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion serves as an advocate for underrepresented students while simultaneously developing, implementing and assessing programs and initiatives that enhances campus life and stimulates the experiences of students through a social justice lens. The coordinator works directly with students and community constituents through our Multicultural Scholars Program, multicultural student organizations, and pre-collegiate and outreach programs.

Responsibilities:
•Support the Multicultural Scholars Program with strategic planning, advising, implementation, and coverage
•Develop and implement programs to serve underrepresented students such as: Life Skills, Health/Wellness, Retention, Finance, Civic Engagement, Time Management, Having Presence, Networking, Conflict Management and others as needed.
•Manage and oversee outreach programs
•Serve as an advisor to student organizations
•Work on ad-hoc projects, as assigned
•Provide referrals, guidance, and intervention for students with underrepresented identities who may be experiencing bias, difficultly negotiating institutional processes, or marginalization due to cultural differences; work in concert with relevant student services and advocate as needed

Minimum Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree
•Exemplary skills in program development and implementation
•Demonstrated commitment to ethnic and cultural diversity
•Cultural competency and capacity to connect and communicate compassion across a breadth of identities
•Excellent oral written communication skills
•Experience in event planning and/or student organization advising
•Possess a collaborative approach to working with students, faculty and staff
•Current driver’s license and ability to obtain certification to drive University vans
•Experience working with students from underrepresented populations
•Experience working with multicultural organizations
•Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

•Master’s degree in student development or related field
•2 years of student affairs higher education experience (internship and practicum experience is acceptable)
