The Department of Neurology at the University of California, Los Angeles invites applications for a Full Project Scientist.

Requirements:
Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree with 8-10 years of collaborative research in identification of disability specific treatment for multiple sclerosis (MS) patients using molecular biology and bioinformatics approaches.

The Project Scientist will oversee and perform projects:

1) Identify the genes and pathways involving in the disease susceptibility /development and sex difference of disease using high throughput sequencing and bioinformatics approach:

  • This includes both mouse and human transcriptomes
  • Use bioinformatic approaches to find the candidate genes and pathways based on transcriptional profiling
  • High level of proficiency with R programming language required

    2) Data mining in the public database and analysis:
  • Quality check and proper normalization for the all datasets from public database before staring the analysis.
  • Analyze both microarray and RNA-Seq data
  • High level of proficiency with R programming language required

    3) Interpretation and visualization of high throughput data
  • Develop the most efficient way to visualize the data for publication and grant application.

    4) Validation and further investigation of findings from high throughput analyses
  • This includes (but not limited to): qPCR, western blot, IHC, cell culture
  • High level of molecular biology skills required

    5) Support lab members with bioinformatics and molecular biology knowledge and skills.
  • Fundamentally, all high throughput analyses will be performed by the Project Scientist.

    6) Maintain the mouse colony. Produce the mice for the experiment as needed.

    7) Complete research and write manuscripts related to projects described for publication.

    8) Assist PI with grant applications related to the research in order to gain funding for the project/personnel.
