Under the general supervision and direction of the Division Dean of Humanities, Social Science, Education, and Athletics, the primary responsibility of this position is to teach up to 15 units (full-time) or up to 10 units (part-time) in Political Science.
Duties and responsibilities may include, but not be limited to the following:Teach introductory courses in political science to meet the educational requirements in the credit course outlines.Participate in the discipline group process for development, evaluation, and revision of curriculum for new courses, materials, and programs.Contribute in the evaluation and revision of existing course curriculum and course materials.Assist the Division Dean in collaborating with campus and community groups to provide programs, courses, and materials relevant to the needs of the students.Assist the Division Dean by providing required information as needed in preparing various plans, budgets, and reports.Complete various reporting procedures as required for student evaluation, course reporting, and budget development.Attend various departmental, divisional, and campus activities as stipulated.Participate in divisional committees as assigned by the Division Dean.Perform other necessary duties which assure the smooth functioning of the Division, as outlined in Board Policy and assigned by the Division Dean.Implement technology and online resources for teaching and managing course content. Familiarity and ability to teach in a distance learning environment.Teach in a large lecture format. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMaster's degree in political science, government, or international relations OR Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND Master's degree in economics, history, public administration, social science, sociology, any ethnic studies, JD, or LL.B. OR the equivalent.Experience teaching political science.Sensitivity to and demonstrated success teaching in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic environment such as a community college.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONSEarned Doctorate and/or Masters Degree in political science and postsecondary education teaching experience especially at the community college level.Demonstrated expertise in the disciplines of political science.Demonstrated leadership qualities and desire to stay current in the political science discipline.Demonstrated exemplary teaching practices in political science.Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to different levels of student's ability and learning styles.Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to students from different cultures and ethnic groups.Demonstrated ability to work in a cooperative manner with staff, students and community college groups.Ability to work with a diverse population representing a wide range of abilities, ages, nationalities and cultures.Knowledge of the varied needs and abilities of non-traditional students and familiarity with materials and methods designed to meet their needs.Demonstrated willingness to put in the necessary time to make the educational programs successful.Some experience teaching or working in the areas of Comparative Politics, International Relations and/or African Government.
