HVAC Process Control Specialist Job Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of a lead or supervisor, employees in this classification, Specialist perform highly skilled work on the full range of systems and equipment, demonstrate a high degree of expertise on most or all of the systems and work independently with little assistance from a lead or supervisor.

  • May also develop new methods or procedures for carrying out unique assignments; and give direction, instruction, and support to others.
    Characteristic Duties
  • Design, install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair and calibrate complete systems and components including control programming software/tools, computers, communications networks, and software.

  • Work with engineers and other groups on the design, re-design, installation, modification, and performance of new systems.

    Perform preventive maintenance and functional analysis of all these systems, including the ability to work with the software.

  • Install, configure and use software to complete instrumentation tasks, write PLC ladder logic and/or function block programming to meet technical specifications, and document ladder logic clearly and accurately.

  • Starts up, certifies and commissions new instrumentation systems; documents startup and testing procedures for new and existing equipment.

  • Implement alarm limits, priority of alarms for paging and notification, change set points, tuning constants and other parameters, and document and communicate all changes or modifications.

  • Plan own work based from assignments given, and prioritize urgency.

  • Provide direction for Process Control Instrumentation Technicians.

  • Write work plans for performing work and procedures for documenting new and existing systems.

  • May generate written Operating Procedures (SOP) for use by other staff.

  • May perform any of the duties described in the Process Control Installation Technician specification or other duties as assigned.


    Certificates and Licenses Required
    Valid California Class C Non-commercial Driver's License.
    Physical Requirements
    Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class C Driver's License.

  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, perform desk-based computer tasks, use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 20 pounds.

  • Occasionally, writing by hand, kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.

  • Rarely sort/file paperwork or parts, scrub/sweep, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.
