Instructor (Summer Program) GEAR UP

Job description

Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) seeks qualified applicants for Instructor. This is a part-time temporary position without benefits. The instructor has the overall responsibility of providing high quality academic instructional services to participants in the areas of mathematics, science, social studies, English, and language arts. Instructors must be available to work after school, Saturdays and during the summer program.  All instructors are required to prepare and submit lesson plans, administer pre and post assessments, and assist with program activities. Classroom management of students is an integral part of these responsibilities. All instructors are required to attend the following: (1) mandatory training/orientation workshops, and (2) scheduled curriculum planning meetings. May be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description.


Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred in related subject area(s). Applicant must have a certificate in related field, excellent classroom management skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience working with economically challenged/first generation college bound students is also preferred.  Background and/or credit check may be required.
