Requirements

Business Manager - Center for Functional and Molecular Imaging (CFMI)
The Center for Functional and Molecular Imaging (CFMI) is a Shared Resource that provides access to a 3 Tesla MRI scanner that is research dedicated. This position is responsible for increasing revenue generated by this resource. In particular, this position will be responsible for identifying opportunities to increase external usage (i.e., non-Georgetown use) including pharmaceutical companies conducting clinical trials and helping to setup short training courses that both make use of the MRI scanner but also charges upwards of $2500/student for the training offered. This position will also work with the with Development Office to coordinate funding raising for a new 7 Tesla human MRI scanner, which will cost upwards of $15M.

This position will have a lead role over various initiatives to expand the utilization and revenue of this center that at the moment cannot be pursued. This will include contacting various Clinical Research Organizations (CROs) who manage clinical trials for pharmaceutical companies to develop a portfolio of clinical trials that make use of the MRI scanner. In addition, this position will lead the effort to coordinate all of the logisitics for new training programs on fMRI including obtaining Continuing Medical Education (CME) certification. The position is also responsible for the oversight of all financial management of the CFMI; all extramural awards and industry sponsored clinical trials of faculty affiliated with the Center; and serves as administrative liaison to Federal, State and Corporate granting agencies. The Business Manager will ensure compliance with federal and institutional policies and oversee long-term planning and daily operations and will assist the Director with navigating GU policies and procedures, grant submissions, financial planning, expensing, reconciliation and other Finance and Operations.

Other duties include but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for all financial aspects of recruitment including faculty and staff, research assistants, and student help as assigned; ensure that the day-to-day operations of CFMI are conducted efficiently and in accordance with university, medical center, and Uniform Guidance policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for processing service contracts to CFMI including following GUMC procedures for establishing and renewing service contracts and POs, and ensuring that invoices are paid in a timely manner.
  • Develop growth strategies and plans to include identifying potential clinical trials that have an MRI scanning component. Develop ongoing working relationships with various Clinical Research Organizations (CROs) who manage clinical trials for pharmaceutical companies. Manage and handle all of the reporting and regulatory requirements for the clinical trials. Manage and retain relationships with CROs and pharmaceutical companies.
  • Work with Director of CFMI to develop specialized training courses. Determine and maintain the documentation needed to obtain Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for the courses. Implement the logistics for carrying out the courses to include identify the optimal times for the courses based on likely scanner availability and optimal timing for potential students, identify rooms for conduct the training, manage the development of training material including any handouts for students, work with the Director to develop the syllabus for each course, and manage the collection of fees from the students.
  • Work with the with Development Office to coordinate identify the necessary steps to fund raise around the 7T human MRI scanner.
  • Oversees and provides daily management of over $5 million dollars in extramural support from various government agencies. This includes a) insuring expenditures are within budget limitations; b) insuring funds are expended according to award specifications; c) projecting future salary and purchasing expenditures; d) insuring financial status reports are accurate; e) insuring invoices for subcontracts are accurate before approving for payment; f) providing Center Director and faculty with current grant information; g) Prepare annual budget reports; h) Ordering equipment and supplies; i) ensuring that all cost centers are in good standing order; j) working closely with investigators from within the Center updating them on their individual awards; k) monitoring payments from sponsors and communicating with investigators from within the Center on budgets.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Sponsored Project Management
  • As the designated Department Financial Manager for Sponsored Project, the employee is responsible for financial management of the sponsored project to ensure compliance with sponsor's requirements and University's policies and procedures.

Qualifications
  • MBA and 5-7 years of administrative/supervisory experience
  • High-level communication skills, a proven ability to work with various stakeholders, a proven ability to negotiate, experience with design and implementation of business development strategy, and experience working to and exceeding targets
