University of Puget Sound invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Art History

Appointment: Ancient or medieval specialist of Europe and the Mediterranean, or early modern specialist in the same region whose work has close ties to the ancient or medieval periods.

This visiting appointment is 5/6-time position beginning Fall Term 2019

Responsibilities:

Teaching load of 5 undergraduate courses (2 in the Fall, and 3 in the Spring), which will include: Studies in Western Art I: Ancient through Medieval Art; The Arts of the Classical World and the Middle Ages; Art Historical Research Methods; and an upper-division course in area of expertise.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Art History (ABD considered).

We seek an art historian with a strong commitment to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts setting. The instructor will teach lecture/discussion courses, evaluate written work, hold 3 office hours per week, and work with art history majors.

The ideal candidate will specialize in ancient or medieval art of Europe and the Mediterranean or in early modern art of the same region with close ties to the ancient and medieval periods. The ideal candidate will be able to teach surveys of ancient and medieval art of Europe and the Mediterranean, art historical methodology, and an upper-division course in area of expertise to be determined in consultation with the department. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated successful teaching experience.
