The George Washington University was founded in 1821 in response to a vision that the nation’s foremost founder spelled out in his last will and testament. He dreamed of a university that would educate the citizen leaders of the new nation he had done so much to create.
Today the university that bears his name is different in many ways from what George Washington could have imagined.
He could not have imagined the sheer size of its enrollment, now 26,000 students, including women as well as men from all 50 states and more than 100 countries. Nor could he have envisioned a university with multiple campuses and 14 schools; with more than 120 departments and 95 centers and institutes; with a half-million-square foot science and engineering building; with a school of public health, located on a circle that bears his name; or with a museum housing a world-class collection of textiles and the history of the great capital city he had only begun to plan.
Responsibility of a House Manager in support of the Office of the President, F Street House.
•Reports to the director
•The person in this position would be stationed at the president’s residence, F Street House (FSH), to receive all vendor deliveries: food and beverage, staffing, AV equipment, lights, event decor, heaters, flowers, balloons, etc.
•In coordination with the Operations manager, reports needed repairs in the house and perimeter; submits non-chargeable Fix-it requests and remains onsite with the tech, until work is complete.
•Ensures all appliances, inventory, and house is returned to its normal state at the end of each day and the house is reset post events.
•Collects mail/answers the door/greets guests/coat check.
•Runs errands for events to include the purchase of food, beverage, and other supplies.
•Ensures the refrigerator and kitchen inventory is stocked with beverages and snacks for meetings; provides coffee service for meetings up to 25 people at FSH and OTP; washes dishes as required.
•During events: maintains fireplaces, fire pits, checks restrooms, ensures catering staff signs in/out; monitors the house to make certain all doors are secured; assists when a guest needs to use the ADA lift(this requires someone to meet the guest in the alleyway and show them to the lift, house within the garage)
•Post events: manage the storage and delivery of leftover food;
•Maintains an updated list of areas/items to be cleaned-communicates with Housekeeping when onsite; during downtime, provides light housekeeping when needed.
•Coordinates with Transportation and event staff to execute the setup and breakdown of events.
•Maintains organization of the 1st floor and basement to include the presidents personal items that are used for events and stored in the university space of the house.
•Prepares inventory that will be used during events: linens/chairs & chair pads/tables/glassware/silverware/china/table covers
•Maintains inventory in the FSH to include but not limited to:
•Glassware, china, silverware, tables, chairs, linen, seasonal event decor; alcohol, beverage, and any other house/event supplies acquired: reports when reordering is required.
•Maintains inventory of paper products, cleaning supplies, office supplies, etc. and reports when reordering is required.
•The handling of artifacts(on loan from the university) and personal items of the president and first lady
•Maintains plants weekly and refreshes flowers three times per week at FSH and Office of the president
•Change batteries/clean bobeches/refresh candles
•Stocks wood and maintains three fireplaces during events; places order to replenish firewood
•Winds the grandfather clock, every four days
•Performs elevator check 2nd and 4th week of the month
•Updates FSH Scrapbook: photos, invitations, and other materials from all FSH events and those which the president and first lady attend; manages the cataloging, labeling, and reshelving of the books in the FSH Library; updates the FSH house binder which includes manuals and information on every appliance and other equipment in the house.
•Updates the guestbook log after each event, compliant with tax requirements.
•Perform other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:
