Position Type/Employee Class: Temporary PT Hourly FTE: Less than .50 FTE Salary Level: Oregon Minimum Wage Starting Minimum Pay: $10.75/hr non-benefited position Starting Maximum Pay: $10.75/hr non-benefited position Hours per Week: 10 - 15 hr/wk, as needed Work Schedule: 8:00am - 6:00pm, hours will vary as needed Days of the Week: Monday - Friday based on schedule Job Summary/Purpose:

Assist students, staff members and general public in the bookstore.

Terms of Employment:

• This is a part-time (<.50 FTE) temporary limited duration position, non-benefited, and non-exempt that is eligible for overtime.
• Requires flexible work schedule.
• Upon hire, must pass background check; only information relevant to the position will be considered.

Essential Functions:

1.Operate computerized point of sales system. Balance cash, checks, and daily cash register receipts.

2.Assist merchandising team and textbook team, as needed, with restocking inventory. Restocking both beverages and food displays, as needed, during shift.

3.Provide customer service in-person and over the phone.

4. Perform other duties as they pertain to the overall objective of the position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The incumbent is expected to follow College work rules and policies.

1.Ability to clearly respond to customer inquiries about the location of goods, cost of goods, sale items, payment methods, bookstore sales and return policies and all other related inquiries.
2.Ability to operate all cash registers, electronic equipment, and manually complete paperwork, and to unload, price and stack merchandise.
3.Ability to recognize when customers are making inquiries on the phone and in-person. Respond to customers promptly and appropriately.
4.Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
5.Ability to stand and/or sit and continuously perform essential functions of position.
6.Ability to grasp and lift or otherwise move goods weighing up to twenty-five pounds along the checkout counter and into shopping bags.
7.Willingness to work at various hours as required during the seasons of rush, finals and other seasonally peak periods.
8.Computer literacy: experience with email, Internet, word processing, and spreadsheets (preferably experience with MS Office Suite products).

Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature with the ability to sit or stand at workstation for extended periods. The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Organization

Central Oregon Community College, the oldest two-year college in Oregon, provides comprehensive college services to the residents of its 10,000-square-mile district.

COCC offers two-year associate degrees, transfer/lower division programs, career and technical education degrees and certificates, developmental courses, continuing education and community learning classes, industry-specific training programs, and business management assistance.

The College's main campus is located on the western edge of Bend, a city known for its natural beauty and its proximity to diverse recreational opportunities. The location affords spectacular views of the mountains from nearly every point on the 201-acre campus. The Redmond Campus, located 20 miles north on 25 acres near the Redmond Municipal Airport, offers all of the courses necessary to earn an associate degree. In addition, it is the home of the Manufacturing and Applied Technology Center.

Thanks to a successful 2009 bond measure, COCC has constructed campus facilities in Madras and Prineville, opening the two campuses in 2011. In Bend, new health careers and science centers opened in 2012 as well as a technology center in Redmond.

A branch of Oregon State University is located on the Bend campus. OSU-Cascades offers upper division and graduate programs on the COCC campus.
