Preferred Qualifications

•A minimum of 2-4 years of professional work experience in nonprofit management, development, grant writing, or similar field.
•Experience in higher education fundraising.

Position Summary

This position reports to the Director of Foundation Relations and is part of the Corporate and Foundation Relations Team in the Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) at the University of Georgia. Reporting primarily out of Athens, this position also requires the flexibility to travel to Atlanta and other areas of the state when necessary to perform the job.

The Assistant Director of Foundation Relations is responsible for the development of local and national relationships with private foundations. The Assistant Director is responsible for researching, identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding foundation donors. In addition, the incumbent will work collaboratively with UGA faculty, staff, and development colleagues to write, edit, review, and prepare proposals for final submission to philanthropic funders.

The Assistant Director will develop and maintain relationships with foundation representatives through an assigned portfolio of centrally managed foundation donors and prospects.

Job functions include:
•Building and managing external relationships with donors, as well as internal relationships with faculty, staff and unit development officers.
•Develop effective grant proposals, letters of inquiry, acknowledgement letters, progress and stewardship reports, and other foundation communications.
•Maintain active and current knowledge about university initiatives.
•Enhance collaborative relationships and integrate Corporate and Foundation Relations efforts with faculty research interests.
•Approximately 60% of this position will be used to call on new and existing foundation relationships, initiate contacts, conduct meaningful follow-up, and prepare visits both on campus and externally.

Maintain a portfolio of 50 foundation prospects, requiring visitation and face-to-face interaction on campus and off-site with representatives from regional and national foundations.

Write, edit and project manage the development of proposals and applications seeking support for University priorities.

Counsel and guide faculty, administrators and unit development directors regarding the development of projects and programs in need of private support.
