Job Description:


The State University of New York at Fredonia invites applications for part-time, FTE 25%, Graduate Assistant position in the Biology Department.
This position will be filled on an as-needed, by semester, basis in accordance with campus and department policy. The successful candidate will be expected to begin with the fall 2019 semester.


The Fredonia Biology Department offers the most up-to-date facilities, cutting edge instrumentation and technology of any biology department in New York State. Our award winning faculty blend outstanding instruction with research and professional learning opportunities for every student enrolled in our programs. All of this translates into an outstanding experience for our students. The Biology Department offers undergraduate degrees in Adolescence Education, Biology, Exercise Science, Medical Technology, Molecular Genetics and the Master of Science degree via a Thesis and Non-thesis program.

KEY RESPONSBILITIES


Reporting to the Biology Chairperson and working with the Faculty Member Instructor of Record, the Graduate Assistant will:


  • Work 10 hours per week toward responsibilities related to the laboratory instruction
  • Instruct in 1 laboratory section of our core courses in our undergraduate majors each semester or equivalent. Specific duties vary in each laboratory assignment.
  • Offer office hours for laboratory students in line with Biology Department guidelines
  • May participate in committees and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession;
  • Know, understand, and follow all university policies.


Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • Enrollment in a current Graduate program with good standing OR acceptance into the graduate program in Biology;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively, and in a collegial and professional manner, with students, faculty, and staff;
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and constituents in support of campus and department mission;

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Past teaching experience or other vocationally-relevant work experiences
