Senior Research Analyst - Kalmanovitz Initiative for Labor & the Working Poor
Georgetown University's Kalmanovitz Initiative for Labor and the Working Poor (KI) develops creative strategies to empower workers in a changing economy. It draws on Georgetown's commitment to intellectual excellence, grounding in the Catholic and Jesuit traditions, and prominence as an arena of policy debate in the nation's capital to advance a vision of broadly-shared economic justice, and respect for the dignity of labor.

The KI is currently developing a program called Bargaining for the Common Good (BCG) in partnership with labor, faith, educational, and community organizations around the country. BCG is an effort to refashion collective bargaining to serve the needs of workers and their communities in the 21st century. It seeks a senior research analyst to support that program. Key responsibilities of the position include:
  • Conducting research that supports the Bargaining for the Common Good campaigns around the country.
  • Working with local partners to develop research plans and campaign strategies.
  • Designing and conducting trainings with local researchers.
  • Coordinating a network of BCG researchers and allies.
  • Recruiting and developing local campaign researchers.
  • Developing and leading popular education trainings with local union and community leaders.
  • Contributing creatively to a forward-thinking team.
  • Speaking on behalf of BCG in public settings.
  • Writing reports and analysis of BCG work for specialized and general audiences.
  • Conducting monthly research webinars.
  • Contributing to the planning and coordination of national and regional convenings.

Qualifications
  • A strong commitment to inclusive ideals of social and racial justice, the dignity of work, and workers' rights to organize and bargain
  • At least three years of experience doing campaign-based research for unions or grassroots community organizations
  • Excellent research, writing, and editing skills
  • Proficiency in Internet-based research, word processing, spreadsheet programs and database design and management
  • Knowledge of paid research data bases such as Lexis-Nexis, Bloomberg, and Preqin
  • Ability to read, understand, analyze and explain complex technical material
  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to think creatively and innovatively
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in politically sensitive and high-pressure environments
  • Demonstrated commitment to community and/or labor organizing with women, immigrants, and communities of color for social change
  • Effective time management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks, with light supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with organizers
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • A keen sense of detail and organization, including the ability to comb through dense documents and identify what is useful and relevant
  • Willingness to work irregular hours and travel as needed
  • An ability to speak Spanish is preferred
  • A good sense of humor
