DescriptionUniversity of Colorado – School of MedicinePost-Doctoral Fellow

Four postdoctoral scientist positions are newly available to study interactions between RNA viruses and the mammalian host, in particular RLRs (MDA5, RIG-I) and other nucleic acid sensing mechanisms. A main project concerns a mouse model of constitutive MDA5/MAVS activation with unique features (see Painter et al., PLOS Pathogens PMID 26633895), and is now strongly NIH-funded for the next five years (Avant-Garde). Viruses studied in the lab are positive strand viruses and HIV-1. Projects involve innate antiviral defense systems, including restriction factors, interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs), and prevention of systemic autoimmunity. Experience sets in molecular biology, innate immunity, virology, cell culture, mouse model experimentation, autoimmune models valued. Expertise in RNAseq and associated bioinformatics also valued. TREX1 and DNA sensing is also being studied and additional positions in molecular features of HIV replication and latency are available.
