 The Departmentof Pathology has an opening for a full-time, University Staff (unclassified) BusinessServices Program Manager position.

 The Department of Pathology at CU AMC has a proudand productive history, spanning over 130 years.  The department includes nearly 100 full timefaculty, 26 residents, 8 clinical fellows and hundreds of staff who worktogether to achieve the mission to discover, to define and to transform.

 The Biorepository Core Facility (Biorepository)is housed within the Department of Pathology but serves researchers across theCU AMC campus and the State of Colorado with an extensive array ofbiorepository services including specimen banking, processing, distribution,and analysis for research purposes. The Biorepository functions as SharedResource for both the University of Colorado Cancer Center (Tissue Biobankingand Histology Shared Resource) as well as the Colorado Clinical TranslationalScience Institute


Nature of Work:
The Biorepository is in need of Business ServicesProgram Manager to provide oversight of administrative and financial managementof the Biorepository Core Facility.  Dailyactivities included but not limited to: managing day-to-day administrative officeoperations; invoicing users for provided services; developing and updating coststudies; managing iLab system; preparing financial and administrative reports;tracking and monitoring resource use and scientific output resulting fromresource use (publications, grants); and monitoring and assuring compliancewith administrative and regulatory mandates.

 Examples of Work Performed
  • Manageoffice operations for the Biorepository including: facilities management;strategic planning and implementation of space utilization; and management ofoffice operations.
  • Provideongoing leadership and oversight of the financial operations of theBiorepository developing and executing strategies to maximize the use offinancial resources available to the Biorepository.
  • Responsiblefor the development and execution of an annual business plan and cost analysisfor the Biorepository to insure appropriate pricing for services rendered andto allow for leadership to easily assess the need for and use of variousfunding resources.
  • Integratethe operation into iLab and subsequently manage iLab to facilitate billingprocesses for services and support data collection on resource use.
  • Developand monitor metrics to demonstrate the value of the Biorepository to theresearch community.
  • Developfinancial metrics to provide fiscal monitoring of the operations to supporttimely and strategic decision making by the leadership.
  • Analyzeadministrative and financial performance and communicate the performance to keystakeholders in the Department of Pathology, the School of Medicine, and inUCHealth to support short- and long-term strategic planning and decision-makingprocesses.
  • Ensure administrative and financial practices and processes complywith applicable state, federal, and accrediting body regulations, including theCollege of American Pathologists (CAP)
  • Conduct needsassessment and planning to meet business objectives. Develop and implementimprovements to maximize benefits.
  • Ensurethe unit’s compliance with all financial policies and procedures related to allfacets of the University, CU Medicine and UC Health financial enterprisesystems (PeopleSoft, Concur, CU Marketplace, OnCore, Epic, etc.) includingelectronic and paper approval and submission (i.e., POs, SPOs, UniversityPayment Vouchers, Travel Reconciliation, Employee/Patient Reimbursements,etc.).
  • Plan and executebusiness, operational, and clinical projects. Develop communication plans toengage key constituents, including university departments, physicians,consortium partners and pharmaceutical companies.
  • Engage stakeholdersin project design and implementation.
  • Present financialand relevant administrative reports to departmental and institutionalleadership, as requested.

    Salary andBenefits:

    The hiring salary for this position is commensuratewith skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime.

    QualificationsMinimumQualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or universitywith a Bachelor’s degree in a biomedical science field or Accounting, Finance,Business Administration or related field. 
  • Three (3) years of professional finance managementexperience.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in administrativeoperations management. (e.g. management of office operation, development/executionof business plan, cost/benefit analysis of services, facilities management)
  • Substitution: Acombination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience maybe substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis, but not forthe specific experience.

     PreferredQualifications:

  • Financial management experience in an academicmedical center.
  • Laboratory or administrative experience in abiomedical science lab.
  • Experience with human subjects research regulationsand Institutional Review Board protocol submissions.
  • Master’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration,Finance or related field from accredited institution.
  • Competencies/Knowledge,Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, acceptedtheories, practices and principles of general management and administration.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, diversifiedfinancial management principles, tools, and techniques
  • Knowledge and experience with complex accountingsystems and processes.
  • Ability to evaluate, analyze, and interpret vastamounts of data, recommend solutions, and implement the preferred course ofaction.
  • Ability to communicate with various constituencies,both internal and external to the campus community, to engender credibilitybased on mutual trust and respect.
  • Ability to plan, organize, implement and coordinatefinancial and administrative activities.
  • Ability to communicate information effectively andensure successful completion of goals.
  • Experience with human subject regulations.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, a strong work ethic, acommitment to high standards, integrity, stability, a discriminating judgmentand accountability.
  • Demonstrated skills in personnel management with theability to direct and lead a team.
