The Department of Biostatistics and Informatics has an opening for a full-time position at the rank of Professor in the tenure track with a strong collaborative track record and experience in women’s health.
Nature of Work
This position is split between providing leadership in collaborations involving women’s health, developing biostatistics/data science education programming for biomedical researchers, and mentoring of junior faculty and graduate students. The person in this position will have a leadership role in the School’s new Center for Innovative Design and Analysis (http://cida.ucdenver.edu)/. This Center (CIDA) is comprised of a growing group of PhD and Master’s trained biostatisticians and data scientists that are passionate about transforming biomedical data into knowledge. Its vision and charge is to transform the analytic ecosystem of the Anschutz Medical Campus. It also has a large focus on developing educational programs that complement the programs in the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics and raise the data literacy of the campus. CIDA is closely affiliated with the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics and the academic home of this position will be in the Department. The Department of Biostatistics and Informatics (BIOS) is one of five departments in the Colorado School of Public Health. Faculty and students in the department apply analytic methods, statistical reasoning and information management techniques to the design and analysis of studies in medical and public health. Professional and research activities include the design and analysis of basic, applied and translational research and clinical trials, statistical consulting, developing of new statistical methods, disease information services, research databases and more. The Colorado School of Public Health, celebrating its 10th anniversary, is a collaborative endeavor involving the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver), Colorado State University (CSU), and the University of Northern Colorado (UNC). The Colorado School of Public Health is the first and only accredited school of public health in the Rocky Mountain Region, attracting top tier faculty and students from across the country, and providing a vital contribution towards ensuring our region’s health and wellbeing. Collaboratively formed in 2008 by the University of Colorado Denver, CSU and UNC, the Colorado School of Public Health provides training, innovative research and community service to actively address public health issues including chronic disease, access to healthcare, environmental threats, emerging infectious diseases, and costly injuries. The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is the only comprehensive academic health sciences center in Colorado, the largest academic health center in the Rocky Mountain region and one of the newest education, research and patient care facilities in the world. The faculty member will be supervised by the Chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics with input from CIDA’s director. The Chair of Biostatistics and Informatics and other faculty in BIOS and CIDA are available for mentorship and guidance. Supervision Exercised
This position will have supervisory responsibilities for junior faculty at the Assistant and Associate Professor levels, postdoctoral fellows, early-career research instructors, PRAs, and graduate research assistants seeking MS and PhD degrees. Examples of Work Performed
Responsibilities for the faculty member will involve contributing to the research, teaching and service missions of the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics and to participate in the leadership of CIDA. More specifically, the person in this position is expected to lead analytic teams that work at teams with other units on campus, such as the Departments of Psychiatry and Obstetrics and Gynecology. The faculty member will be expected to develop applications for programs/cores for center type grants and mentoring of junior faculty (e.g., fellow, residents and other clinical faculty). In addition, the faculty member will be expected to lead CIDA’s education efforts and build partnerships across campus for those programs. They will also teach graduate curriculum in the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics and mentor graduate students in the Department’s education programs. The candidate is expected to have a sustained and successful independent research career which must be highly collaborative and innovative with a focus on excellence. QualificationsMinimum qualifications
- PhD degree in statistics, biostatistics, mathematics, computer science, applied mathematics or related fields.
- An ongoing, sustained peer-reviewed publication record.
- Evidence of leadership and impact in research.
- A national and/or international reputation in research.
- Expertise in women’s health.
- Expertise in the analysis of longitudinal data.
- A record of continuous and sustained external research funding as a co-investigator.
- Evidence of external research funding as a lead investigator (e.g., Director of Biostatistics Cores).
- Demonstrated ability to successfully lead the biostatistical design and analytic elements of clinical or translational research projects.
- Demonstrated record of supervision of junior researchers and analysts of clinical or translational research projects.
- Leadership in and service to professional and/or scientific organizations.
- Appointment to responsible positions within the candidate’s previous institution(s).
- A mix of first, senior and other types of authorship defined by the candidate’s field that represents a significant and sustained body of scientific research.
