Nature of Work:
The PRA will manage the day to day operations of clinical, preclinicaland basic studies including, but not limited to, the following specific tasks:Completion of required regulatory documents andobtain necessary approvals from on campus administrative bodies (e.g., SARC,COMIRB, IACUC)Maintaining OnCore Clinical Trials Managementand clinicaltrials.gov profiles Coordinate and implement human subject recruitmentConduct phone screeningsConsent qualified study participantsSchedule and conduct study related visits andoutcome assessments as required by the protocol, including but not limited to:Clinical: obtain medical history, perform maximalexercise tests and body composition scans, perform resting metabolic rate tests,assist with human fat and muscle biopsies and process human tissue, blood,urine and saliva samples. Basic: cell culture maintenance and in vitro assays(i.e., lipolysis) Research, develop, troubleshoot and perform molecularbiology studies such as PCR, western blots, microscopy, plate assays, staining andperformance of flow cytometry.Make buffers and solutions including performing concentrationand dilution calculations and pH adjustment.Assess, document and maintain quality control ofall study-related data (using RedCap, OnCore and laboratory notebook)Data entry and quality assuranceMaximize retention of study participantsTrack and report study related adverse eventsaccording to IRB guidancePrepare reports for study team meetings andannual IRB reviewAttend weekly research meetingsSupervise students/part time PRAs who work inthe laboratoryAssist with wet lab maintenance/compliance andsupply ordering/trackingOther duties, as needed, for study completionSalary and Benefits:Salary is commensurate with skills and experience. The PRA will be responsible for supervising student workersin the lab and any other part time lab personnel in the Gavin Lab. This PRAwill be responsible for teaching excellent laboratory technique and HIPPA-compliantclinical research skills to these additional staff members.

Thisis a full-time (1.0 FTE) position for a professional research assistant whowill manage clinical and basic studies, perform cell culture and molecularbiology techniques in the Division of Geriatric Medicine. Thisposition is not involved in the instructional program. This is a full-time, benefited position. The incumbent is not eligible for tenure. The area ofresearch is in sex differences in adipocyte biology as a member of the IMAGE (Investigations in Metabolism, Aging, Genderand Exercise) research group.

QualificationsMinimumRequirements
- The candidate must have a minimum of a Bachelor of Sciencedegree in Biological Sciences, Integrative Physiology or a related disciplineand 3-4 years experience in the research field.
- Thesuccessful applicant will have experience with clinical research management, cellculture and molecular biology techniques and must be familiar with Microsoft Wordand Excel.
- A Masters degreeand extensive experience managing clinical or basic research studies and performingcell culture and flow cytometry are preferred.
- Experience/willingness to work withmouse colonies is preferred.

- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to develop a solid rapport with others
- Excellent oral and written skills with the ability to write and conduct daily communications
- Basic knowledge of data management, collection, quality control and analysis methods
- Be proficient with computer software including RedCap, OnCore, Microsoft word, outlook, and excel
- Pass required research compliance courses (CITI, HIPAA and IACUC training)
- Possess (or obtain) basic life support (BLS) certification and maintain certification throughout employment
- Be flexible in daily routine and hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed
- Have strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Be familiar with performing concentration and dilution calculations
- Be willing to work with research animals (i.e., mice)
- Compassion and experience working with research volunteers
- Ability to represent the University, Department, and Division, internally and externally, in a professional and positive manner
