Nature of Work: 

This position entailsrecovering explanted human hearts from the operating room at the time of hearttransplantation, as well as participating in the post-surgical dissection andsubsequent physiological characterization of these recovered organs in a musclebath system for Heart Failure Research. Once the tissue is brought back to the lab the research involves assessingthe biochemical and pharmacologic characteristics of these explanted humanhearts utilizing biochemical and molecular measurements.  This position also requires animal (rodent)work, including surgeries and molecular analysis. In addition, the candidatewill be expected to diagnose and problem solve as it relates to the researchproject and muscle bath equipment; and collaboration with other PRAs, Sr. PRAs,and post docs in the lab.

Professional Field: 


A baccalaureate degreeor equivalent training in an appropriate field is also required (biology,molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology or similar)

Example of WorkPerformed:

Also, thisPRA will be assessing the biochemical and pharmacologic characteristics ofthese explanted human hearts utilizing biochemical and molecular measurements.Other qualifications include, but are not limited to: attention to detail,ability to write scientific reports, IRB protocol maintenance, RT-PCR experiments, and database management. The jobrequires 24-hour availability 6-8 days/month. Animal work will involve surgery,tissue collection and analysis.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 


Requirements include aminimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline (e.g. molecular orcellular biology, molecular pharmacology, biochemistry). Work will beperformed primarily at the Anschutz Medical Campus at Fitzsimons.
