POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Music andEntertainment Industry Studies Department (MEIS) in the College of Arts &Media (CAM) at the University of Colorado Denver (UCD) seeks an Assistant Professorin the Music Business (9-month, Tenure Track). The position will begin August2019. The successful candidate will have a teaching load of five courses peracademic year (3/2 or 2/3), with Research/Creative work and Service components.This position has a 40/40/20 split between teaching, research and service.

Withpurpose in its role as a creative catalyst in a public urban researchuniversity, The College of Arts & Media (CAM) seeks faculty in theDepartments of Music and Entertainment Studies, Film & Television andVisual Arts--who will be a diverse group--representing varied gender, racial, ethnic, sexual, and class identities.

TheCollege of Arts & Media (CAM) envisions a world made smaller, and morefully human, by the artist’s, designer’s and scholar’s interpretations of the human experience. CAM students enroll withpassion for creative expression. The goal of the faculty, staff, alumni andcommunity partners is to send them out into the world confident of purpose,ready to succeed. CAM students acquire the skills they need to excel inan academically rigorous, experiential learning environment energized bycreative exchange, real-world experience and diversity of voice.

Inaddition to having notable and relevant specialization(s) in research andcreative work, candidates will have professional affinities and the motivationto also teach, lead, model and conduct research and creative work across thethree departments in CAM (music industries, film & tv and visual arts).Experience and/or aptitude in professional practice* is prime criteria forconsideration, and an awareness/involvement to assure CAM graduates arefuture-ready to enter the creative industries. The expectations for all facultyhires will be civic engagement (to advance opportunities for students andattainment for faculty research and creative work), participation in studentrecruitment, and to be active and dynamic citizens of a culture that engagesbroadly with the community.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters level degree with extensive industryexperience.
  • Quality research, creative, and scholarlyactivity.
  • Proven ability to effectively teach at theuniversity level.
  • A skill set for high quality independentteaching and administrative service.
  • Aptitude for professional development throughscholarly activity.
  • Ability and willingness to discern and meet theneeds of students.
  • Evidence of an ability to work with others in acollegial and productive manner.
  • Ability to maintain a climate that is collegial,respects and values diversity, treats faculty, staff and learners fairly, andis hospitable to creativity and innovation.

PreferredQualifications:

  • Terminaldegree or other academic equivalent (PhD, DMA JD, etc.).
  • Minimum2 years teaching experience in Music Business.
  • Minimum3-5 years’ experience in one or more of the following music industry sectors:Artist management, concert promotion, music marketing, record companyoperations and the digital music industry.
  • Activeresearch agenda with published peer review journals or books.
  • Curriculumand course development experience (including online courses).
