The Office of Digital Education reports to the Chancellors of the CU Denver and CU Anschutz Medical Campuses and was created in early 2018 to accelerate the growth of CU Online and digital education initiatives more broadly. The investment by the campuses in the Office of Digital Education, combined with recent commitments focused on online education by the University of Colorado Board of Regents, make this a rare and exciting opportunity.

  The Office of Digital Education is accepting applications for Senior Director for Program Evaluation, a university staff (non-classified) position. 


The Senior Director for Program Evaluation will lead the unit efforts to design and implement an ongoing effort to evaluate the short and long term outcomes and impact of the Office of Digital Education on increased online student enrollment and success.  This leadership role will involve frequent interactions across service and business units, schools, colleges and programs on the CU Denver and Anschutz Campuses to lead data collection, extraction, management and analysis efforts.  This role will foster ongoing collaborative efforts across diverse data systems and infrastructures and will lead regular and ongoing program evaluation initiatives.The Senior Director for Program Evaluation reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for the Office of Digital Education.The Senior Director for Program Evaluation supervises full-time and part-time university staff and graduate students.  

  Examples of Work performed:
There are three areas of responsibility aligned with the strategic priorities for the Office of Digital Education:

  • Develop and implement a robust program evaluation for all ODE activities.
  • Design short, medium, and long-term evaluation plans
  • Identify data sources for all evaluation activities
  • Design and implement primary data collection activities in the execution of an evaluation plan
  • Provide oversight and management over data extraction, storage, management and analysis
  • Provide oversight on the creation of report materials to disseminate information on outcomes and impact
  • Identify and capture metrics from initiatives to assess feasibility for scale and impact;
  • Work with Sr. Director for Innovation on evaluation of the outcomes associated with new pilot programs utilizing emerging education technologies
  • Lead and foster a culture of adherence to robust evaluation methods and evidence-based decision making;
  • Coordinate with institutional offices and partners to ensure efforts are complementary and not duplicative;
  • Facilitate continual and widespread communication about ODE activities, outcomes and impact
  • Host regular meetings to share information about evaluation;
  • Create and sustain official evaluation reports for diverse audiences
  • Identify, recommend, and facilitate priorities and strategies for the mission of the Office of Digital Education.
  • Based on evaluation findings, identify and develop online program priorities with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Digital Education and the Vice Chancellor for Enterprise Development;
  • Participate in relevant policy and planning committees and meetings;
  • Provide student and Faculty advocacy in alignment with interests of the schools/colleges based on evaluation findings

    Salary and Benefits:


    The salary range for this role has been established and is commensurate with skills and experience.  This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

    QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:

    • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Masters degree in education, educational technology, instructional design, academic technology, or related field of study.
    • 5 to 8 years of experience working in program evaluation, preferably in a higher education setting.
    • Prior experience in a leadership role in the design and delivery of program evaluation
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Doctoral degree in education, educational technology, instructional design, academic technology, or related field of study.
    • Experience leading program evaluation of digital education initiatives
    • Experience in oversight of data extraction and management from diverse sources within an institution of higher education
    • Experience and oversight in rapid pilot testing of educational innovations
    • Experience with mixed methods evaluation
    • Experience working with university faculty from a wide range of disciplines and in working with diverse university staff.
    Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Excellent qualitative and quantitative data management and data analytic skills
    • Capacity to utilize both statistical and qualitative analysis software (e.g. SPSS, R, DeDoose)
    • Skills in data visualization
    • Skills in database design, data management
    • Strong project management and organizational skills, including ability to set priorities, manage simultaneous projects, and complete projects on time
    • Organized, detail oriented, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment where projects run side-by-side
