Senior Institutional Research Analyst

The Institutional Research Senior Analyst reports to the Director of Institutional Research (IR) and provides data and research support to the university community.


Job Duties:


The primary responsibilities assigned to this position are threefold: manage Tableau visualizations for IR, support campus-level analytical efforts, and manage all IR surveys. The Analyst will abide by the Code of Ethics as published by the Association for Institutional Research. This is a full-time professional exempt position.

  • Managing Tableau for IR includes creating visualizations from existing campus data. The Senior Analyst will work closely with the Director and other Senior Analyst in IR to validate existing data sources for the visualizations and will be expected to provide end-user training to campus colleagues. The Senior Analyst will be the Tableau lead within IR.

  • Supporting campus-level analytical efforts may include warehouse querying and reporting to support the Director; reviewing IR reports for consistency and validity; website updates; analyses of student enrollment, human resources, and/or financial data with respect to strategic planning; service on committees, search committees, or other ad-hoc committees; and support to other units in Administration and Finance, Student Success, Academic Affairs, University Advancement, and Information Technology as needed.

  • Institutional Research survey management includes administration and reporting for the First-Year or Freshman Survey, Graduating Seniors Survey, Alumni Survey, national surveys such as the National Survey of Student Engagement, and other ad-hoc surveys of UCCS students or employees. We are currently using Qualtrics software for survey administration.

Job Competencies:

  • Experience with faculty records, the tenure process, and related policies.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting survey research.

  • Demonstrated experience building and sharing Tableau visualizations.

  • Proficiency using Excel, SPSS, SAS or BrioQuery, Cognos, Banner or PeopleSoft, and Qualtrics.

  • Knowledge of data warehousing and database management.

  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods.

  • Knowledge of academic accrediting agencies and the reports required thereof.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse people.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, especially to lead Tableau training efforts.

  • Ability for critical thinking and problem solving.

This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).


Salary Range:  $62,000 to $72,000

QualificationsMinimum Requirements:
  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Three years of experience working in higher education.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Doctoral Degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience working in an institutional research office.
  • Familiarity with UCCS, CU System, and CDHE.
  • Proficiency conducting advanced statistical analyses.
  • Experience conducting qualitative research.
  • Experience with faculty records, the tenure process, faculty/course questionnaires, and related policies.
  • Familiarity with Canvas data.
  • Familiarity with Drupal.
