DescriptionThe HumanPhysiology and Nutrition Program at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs isseeking applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor with expertisein Exercise Science / Strength and Conditioning. The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. (orterminal degree in a closely related field) and have a strong commitment toteaching. Applicants are sought who can teach core classes in the undergraduateexercise science curriculum, as well as specialty courses within thestrength and conditioning optionand graduateprogram.

The Human Physiology and Nutrition program is a new academic unit (formed January1, 2019) in the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences that merges expertise in human anatomy, physiology, nutrition, exercisescience, and biomechanics from the Department of Biology and the Department ofHealth Sciences. The program will administer existing degree programs in Exercise Science (BS, MSc), Strength and Conditioning (BS option, MS) andSports Nutrition (MSc), and has plans to expand undergraduate and graduate degreeofferings in both human physiology and human nutrition. Enrollment in thesedegree programs is expected to double in the next 5 years. A new building,which will house the program and its faculty, is under construction andscheduled to open in the fall of 2020.


This is a non-tenure-trackappointment for the 2019-2020 academic year. The successful candidate will be expectedto teach the equivalent of 21 credit hours of undergraduate- and graduate-levelcourses in the program, including strength and conditioning and exercisetesting and prescription (lectures and labs); advise undergraduate and graduatestudents; and demonstrate collaborative interests and collegiality in allaspects of faculty engagement (70% teaching; 30% service).

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Strength and Conditioning, or a closely related discipline, conferred by August 19, 2019
  • 1 year of teaching experience as a graduate teaching assistant or higher
Preferred Qualifications:
  • C.S.C.S. and/or ACSM EP-C
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Strength and Conditioning
