The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering (CEAE, https://www.colorado.edu/ceae/) at the University of Colorado Boulder is currently seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Geotechnical Engineering and Geomechanics (GEGM, https://www.colorado.edu/ceae/research/geotechnical-engineering-geomechanics). The position is part of a long-term growth plan for the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS), and we are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching and service, to the diversity and excellence of our academic community. The position is open at all levels, with emphasis on applicants at the Assistant Professor level.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a related field, strong fundamentals and modern analytical and experimental training, appropriate research and practical experience, and the capability and vision to develop a vigorous research program. The search is specifically geared toward candidates with prior experience and interest in physical (in particular, geotechnical centrifuge) modeling. Examples of applications include earthquake engineering, foundation and dam engineering, soil and rock mechanics, energy resources, environmental impacts, national security, infrastructure, natural hazard mitigation, as well as other current and emerging geotechnical engineering problems. Applicants with strong preparation and inclination towards field testing and the ability to integrate with analytical methods also are encouraged to apply. The new faculty member will have ample opportunity to collaborate with a strong and diverse GEGM and CEAE body of faculty and researchers as well as have access to excellent experimental facilities, such as the Department’s world-class 400 g-ton geotechnical centrifuge with dynamic capabilities (https://www.colorado.edu/center/ciest/). Applicants whose expertise bridges engineering and related disciplines are encouraged to apply. The new faculty member will be expected to engage in undergraduate and graduate teaching, and contribute professional service.
Potential faculty members applying to CEAE at CU Boulder should describe their plans to develop a recognized research program based on scholarly work in their particular field, their ideas for interdisciplinary collaboration, their experience and interest in teaching undergraduate and graduate students, and their future plans for inspiring diverse students to conduct research.
The College of Engineering and Applied Science at The University of Colorado Boulder is also eager to accommodate the needs of dual career couples.
