Requisition Number: 16582 Location: Boulder, Colorado Employment Type: University Staff Schedule: Full-Time Posting Close Date: 23-Apr-2019 Close All Job Summary The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado Boulder welcomes applications for a Web Developer. CIRES collaborates with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) located at the Earth System Research Lab (ESRL), Global Systems Division (GSD) in Boulder, CO.
GSD conducts world-class applied research and directed development resulting in technology transfer of environmental data, models, products, and services that enhance environmental understanding with the outcome of supporting commerce, supporting NWS in protecting life and property, and promoting a scientifically literate public.
GSD is seeking a Web Developer to manage both internal and external websites. This position will provide all of the content management to maintain a professional web presence in a technology-rich science-focused organization. This developer will manage the day-to-day look and feel of the externally facing websites as well as the informational internal websites (Intranet). Particular attention will be focused on Web security and related processes and procedures to ensure compliance with Federal mandates. - Coordinate with communication specialists to develop compelling content on GSD accomplishments, research, and contributions.
- Research and evaluate commercial and open source web technology to meet GSD requirements and recommend appropriate and cost-effective implementation.
- Implement, configure, operate, and maintain the GSD web infrastructure, as well as research, develop, document, and maintain web applications, utilities, and tools.
- Design, develop, and maintain GSD internal (intranet) and external websites and web pages.
- Collaborate with various technical and project teams to determine requirements and propose solutions to meet GSD requirements with Web technology.
- Review requirements and provide recommended priorities and time estimates for the development of GSD web technology solutions and features.
- Coordinate with ESRL and GSD security offices to help ensure IT security for GSD web infrastructure and applications and recommend resolutions of insecure methods and practices.

- Must pass a federal security check for working in a Federal Laboratory.

- Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Must pass a federal security check for working in a Federal Laboratory.
- Knowledge of and at least 2 years of professional experience with:
- HTML, CSS, javascript, CGI, Python
- Content Management Systems such as Django-CMS or Wordpress
- Cron and secure coding methods
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Must be able to work as part of a team, prioritize projects, and multi-task.
- Must be able to take complex scientific information and translate it for the general public.
- Must be able to generate compelling media-rich content.
- At least two years of experience in web technology design and development.
- Knowledge of and experience with:
- Client/server architecture
- Apache web server & Perl
- Dreamweaver or Photoshop
- Developing device-responsive layouts
- Demonstrated skill generating and maintaining application documentation and databases.
