Job Summary This position directs the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, including instructional design and faculty development initiatives for the College. Georgia Highlands College seeks an individual who is fluent in pedagogy, has experience implementing high impact educational practices, and is passionate about faculty development to serve as our next Director of the Center for Excellence in Learning Teaching. The right candidate will have the desire and energy to bring together ideas and people from across a multi-campus, forward-thinking institution to advance our efforts to provide high-quality instruction that enhances our students’ academic achievement and personal and professional growth. Your work will be deeply felt across our institution by students, faculty, staff, and administrators.    
  Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and management for the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), including instructional design and faculty development initiatives.
  • Develop and implement a vision, mission, strategic plan, and goals for the CETL which interface with, and support the goals of the college.¿
  • Administer and manage projects, programs, and operations related to the CETL and integrate them into teaching and learning operations.
  • Conduct, on an annual basis, a needs analysis regarding faculty development and institutional initiatives; reviews, assesses, and evaluates programs offered by the CETL and submit an annual report to the VPAA
  • Chairs and actively engages with a CETL advisory group that represents various constituents at the college.
  • Manage the CETL budget and explore creative ways to increase funding through proposals, grants, and partnerships.
  • Oversee a multifaceted marketing and communication campaign to build support and awareness for CETL initiatives.
  • Promote diversity and inclusivity in the college’s curriculum.¿
  • Collaborate with the faculty, instructional council, CETL advisory group, ITS, deans, directors, and other college constituents to develop resources and activities supporting college initiatives as well as providing purposeful and meaningful faculty development.
  • Research and maintain expertise regarding the trends in pedagogical and andragogical principles used in both traditional and technology-enhanced higher education contexts.
  • Promote research informed innovations and excellence in teaching to support high impact learning
  • Participate in a wide variety of committee work at departmental and college level.
  • Represent the college at various functions both at the state and national levels.
  • Serves as USG CTL-Consortium representative.
  • Teach at least one academic course per year.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with two or more years of experience in a CETL leadership role or a current faculty appointment having two or more years of teaching experience demonstrating innovative teaching practices
  • Working knowledge of the mission and goals of the American Association of Colleges and Universities, especially in regards to following initiatives: LEAP, High Impact Educational Practices, and Diversity and Inclusion
  • Two years Higher Education teaching experience
  • Administrative experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate degree
  • An understanding of the unique mission of an access institution in the University System of Georgia
  • Experience in the use of learning management systems, web-based programs, and other instructional technology tools
  • Experience in researching, developing and implementing successful faculty development activities.
  • Working knowledge of current trends in pedagogical and andragogical principles used in both traditional and technology-enhanced higher education context
  • Experience developing and implementing successful faculty development activities
  • Experience managing a multi-facetted budget
  • Working knowledge of the policies and procedures associated with the University System of Georgia

  • Knowledge of institutional budgeting
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs
  • Skill in pedagogy and classroom management in a variety of learning environments, including online, hybrid, and face-to-face
  • Skill in communicating and relationship building with both full- and part-time faculty and staff.
  • Skill in the completion of required reports
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Ability to understand the policies of the University System of Georgia
  • Ability to understand the policies and procedures of Georgia Highlands College
