The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. The college benefits pets and their owners, food-producing animals, and wildlife by offering the highest quality hospital and diagnostic laboratory services. Equipped with the most technologically advanced facilities located on a university campus, the college is dedicated to safeguarding public health by studying emerging infectious diseases that affect both animal and human health.

Position Summary

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia (www.vet.uga.edu) is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor for the Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife Disease Study (SCWDS) located in Athens, Georgia. This position will work closely with faculty and staff to coordinate wildlife health research and service activities among the 18 state wildlife management agencies that are members of the cooperative as well as agencies within the U.S. Departments of Agriculture, Health and Human Services, and the Interior as well as other organizations. This position has responsibilities in service, research, and teaching depending on the interest and expertise of the candidate and the needs of SCWDS.

Additional Requirements

Candidates must have a DVM or VDM degree or international equivalent from an accredited college of veterinary medicine or a PhD in pathology, epidemiology, or veterinary microbiology/virology.

All applicants should have a minimum of two years of experience in their field of study or industry.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

At least one year of experience in research, academia, and public service is highly desirable.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Competitive candidates will have a broad knowledge of wildlife population health and associated issues, and evidence of effective communication, administrative, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
