Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualificaitons.

Preferred Qualifications

- Expertise with other Adobe products (e.g. Illustrator) and audio programs (e.g. Audacity)
- Knowledge of instructional design concepts and principles, especially agile development paradigms
- Experience with Cornerstone OnDemand Learning
- Familiarity with SCORM content creation
- Ability to effectively communicate with non-native English speakers

Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President for Research Integrity and Safety and the direct supervision of the Director for Support Services, the Instructional Designer supports the mission of research education through e-Learning course design and the development of instructional materials. The Instructional Designer collaborates with Subject Matter Experts to create online learning that can translate complex ideas into teaching tools to maximize learner understanding. Additionally, the Instructional Designer contributes significantly to safety training development in the Environmental Safety Division.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

-Solid technical expertise and proficiency in creating interactive online content using authoring tools, preferably Articulate Storyline
-Familiarity with working within a learning management system
-Strong PC skills and expertise in Microsoft Office (especially advanced PowerPoint) and Abode Photoshop
-Aptitude for effective visual, oral and written communication
-Ability to adapt to ad hoc requests, scope changes and remain productive in response to a fluctuating work environment
-A motivation for continuous professional development and ability to stay current with emerging technologies

Design and produce creative, innovative learning materials in a variety of formats, including print, graphics, audio, video, e-Learning and blended learning, that are engaging, self-directed and which support the objectives and goals of the Research Training Program.
