The School of Medicine's Office for Research Core Administration at the University of Virginia seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor of Research Support in Bioinformatics, tenure-ineligible faculty position, whose mission is to provide expert consultation to the research community at UVa. This position serves as Director of the Bioinformatics Core Facility, which provides expert and timely bioinformatics consulting and production services. The incumbent will work closely with investigators in the experimental design and analysis of genome/proteome-scale research in both human and model organism which will include studies of differential gene/protein expression, protein phosphorylation, protein-DNA binding, DNA methylation, pathway analysis and DNA variation, provided from a number of platforms and other high-throughput platforms biotechnology platforms in both human and model organisms.

Candidates must hold a PhD or MD. and have significant research experience in the fields of bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, statistical genetics, and/or statistical genomics. The successful applicant must be motivated, independent and highly organized, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Some background or experience in biological research and complex experimental biological systems is preferred.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Candidates must hold a PhD or MD.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require walking some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
