Position SummaryThe Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for a clinical position as an Academic Specialist in Clinical Pathology. The VDL, one of the country's premier veterinary diagnostic laboratories, provides full-service laboratory support to the MSU Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) as well as to international and national clients, and serves companion animals and horses as well as livestock, laboratory, zoo, and wildlife species. The clinical pathology section offers a comprehensive service in the areas of clinical biochemistry, hematology, hemostasis, urinalysis, and cytology. The laboratory has state-of-the-art equipment including a Siemens ADVIA hematology analyzer, Beckman Coulter chemistry analyzer, Nova blood gas/ critical care analyzer, STA Compact coagulation analyzer, and Attune NxT flow cytometer.
The successful applicant must have a strong commitment to providing outstanding diagnostic service for colleagues within the MSU Veterinary Medical Center, as well as for private veterinary practitioners and clients who submit diagnostic material through the VDL. The primary responsibility of this position is the oral and written interpretation of clinical pathology data, including cytologic evaluations of bone marrow, effusions, solid tissue, and blood. Duties will include frequent consultations with other VDL pathologists and faculty, practicing veterinarians, and, when appropriate, animal disease regulatory officials. There are opportunities to participate in teaching in the DVM curriculum, and advising, mentoring, and instruction of residents is expected. The successful candidate will have responsibility for a portion of the VDL service/outreach activities, including marketing. Scholarly activity is expected, including presentations at local, regional and national meetings, collaborative research, publications, and active participation in laboratory test development and innovation.
The position is available immediately. Salary is commensurate with training and experience.

Minimum RequirementsCandidates must possess a DVM or equivalent degree and have certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP), the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP), or be eligible for board certification. Cultural competence and excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to relate complex concepts to diverse audiences, are required. The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to providing excellent service in support of the VDL’s vision to be a trusted leader in diverse, innovative laboratory solutions and education for animal health partners around the globe.
