Position Summary

The Quantitative Fisheries Center (QFC), in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State University seeks a research associate to join projects related to adaptive management (control) efforts of invasive grass carp in Lake Erie. The projects involve leading a collaborative team of researchers from Michigan DNR, USFWS, USGS, and MSU in experimental targeted removal efforts for grass carp in the Michigan waters of Lake Erie, collecting and processing of environmental DNA (eDNA) samples, and planning/participating in acoustic telemetry research into grass carp space use to inform control efforts. The associate will supervise technicians in field and lab work. Experience leading a field study in fisheries, preferably with electrofishing, is strongly preferred, as well as interest/experience with laboratory methods for eDNA processing, and analysis/simulation modeling of acoustic telemetry data. Interest/experience with engaging agency personnel and stakeholders at the interface of technical analysis and resource management is also desired. The associate may also have the opportunity to participate in other QFC activities, including preparing for and delivering on-line and short-courses on quantitative fisheries methods and assisting with consulting projects with QFC supporting partners.

Required Degree

Doctorate -fisheries science or related discipline

Minimum Requirements

Field experience and a strong record of research productivity in quantitative methods.

Desired Qualifications
