Nature of Work

The Resident Assistant (RA) is a live-in, part-time, current College of Coastal Georgia student employee in the residence hall who is chosen through a departmental selection process. The RA will work under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Residence Life and Housing/Deputy Title IX Coordinator and under the day-to-day supervision of the Residence Hall Director.
The weekly schedule will be assigned by the supervisor in conjunction with the student’s class schedule. The work schedule is subject to change between semesters or as needed. Students are not to work during scheduled class time, even if class is cancelled or dismissed early.

Essential Duties

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
RAs general expectations are as follows:

  • Interacting with your residents
  • One-to-one meeting with the Residence Hall Director
  • Staff meeting
  • Information desk hours
  • On-call responsibilities
  • Planning and implementing hall events
  • Staff development
  • Resident outreach and interaction. RAs must know their residents, be approachable and accessible, encourage resident involvement, support academics, assist with needs and make appropriate referrals.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Prepare residence hall for residents.
  • Perform check-ins (inspect rooms, distribute keys and key cards, prepare and process check-in forms, etc.).
  • Perform check-outs (collects keys and key cards, process paperwork, inspect rooms for damaged and missing items, etc.).
  • Maintain the information desk during specified times in a professional manner.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation that includes evening rounds to ensure the safety and security. On call responsibilities include meeting the needs of residential students and summer conference guests. Confirm that residence hall policies are being followed.
  • Maintain building security at all times and report any violations to the Residence Hall Director.
  • Submit accurate reports as required and provide necessary follow-up.
  • Assist during emergency situations such as fire, medical emergency, severe weather, etc.
  • Serve as resource person.
  • Anticipate needs and problems; take or recommend action as appropriate.
  • Assist with housing operations.
  • Complete program responsibilities: door decorations, bulletin boards, educational programs, social programs, etc.
  • Utilize meal plan to interact with residents in the dining hall to improve and develop relationships
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications and Training
  • Must be enrolled in six credit hours.
  • Must have and maintain a minimum of 2.5 Grade Point Average
  • Cannot be employed in any other job on campus
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Must have a $0 balance on student account prior to start of employment
