Serve as the first point of contact at the Barber Library Circulation desk. Provide support for the Barber Library Circulation and Public Services Department staff.
Job Location is on the Bend Campus.

Terms of Employment:
• This is a part-time (<.50 FTE) Federal Work Study position
• Requires flexible work schedule, which may include evenings and/or weekends as well as travel throughout the district when needed.
•Must have been awarded and accepted Federal Work-Study for 2018-19
•Must be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress for financial aid.
• Upon hire, must pass criminal and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered.

Essential Functions:

1.Provide cordial, professional service to all library patrons.
2.Utilize complex library software applications/databases to check out, check in, renew circulating library materials, and update patrons’ account status.
3.Assist patrons in person or by phone with Course Reserve requests, general Circulation, and library policy.
4.Provide pertinent directional information, referring patrons to appropriate departments and library personnel as applicable.
5.Learn Library of Congress call number protocol for shelving library items, and shelf reading.
6.Special tasks and other projects as assigned.
7.Maintain confidentiality of patron records, both personal and library use information.

Individuals must possess the listed knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The incumbent is expected to follow College work rules and policies

•Skills with computer and keyboarding and other software applications/databases, Internet usage.
•Skills in customer service, greeting public and representing the employer.
•Ability to accept supervision and direction of supervisors.

•Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language with or without the use of an interpreter.
•Able to perform all duties with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.
•Able to be perform responsibly, be reliable, be a punctual self-starter, work independently without direct supervision.
•Flexibility and willingness to work at varying paces is essential.
•Familiarity with library services helpful.

Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting under ten pounds for 15 percent of the time. Computer screen is used more than 70 percent of the time. Must be able to climb or pull self-upward and guide, feeding materials into proper position. Able to crawl under desks to check cabling and able to carry supplies between campus buildings. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Organization

Central Oregon Community College, the oldest two-year college in Oregon, provides comprehensive college services to the residents of its 10,000-square-mile district.

COCC offers two-year associate degrees, transfer/lower division programs, career and technical education degrees and certificates, developmental courses, continuing education and community learning classes, industry-specific training programs, and business management assistance.

The College's main campus is located on the western edge of Bend, a city known for its natural beauty and its proximity to diverse recreational opportunities. The location affords spectacular views of the mountains from nearly every point on the 201-acre campus. The Redmond Campus, located 20 miles north on 25 acres near the Redmond Municipal Airport, offers all of the courses necessary to earn an associate degree. In addition, it is the home of the Manufacturing and Applied Technology Center.

Thanks to a successful 2009 bond measure, COCC has constructed campus facilities in Madras and Prineville, opening the two campuses in 2011. In Bend, new health careers and science centers opened in 2012 as well as a technology center in Redmond.

A branch of Oregon State University is located on the Bend campus. OSU-Cascades offers upper division and graduate programs on the COCC campus.
