The Community Assistant (CA) is ) a live-in required, student staff position with Housing and Residence Life. Responsible for assisting in the implementation of a residential experience/community development model.

Terms of Employment:
• This is a temporary limited duration, part-time (<.50 FTE) non-benefited position.
• Student staff position work period that is 9-months of the academic year typically Fall, Winter and Spring Terms; live-in required.
• Requires flexible work schedule, which may include evenings and/or weekends as well as travel throughout the district when needed.
• Upon hire, must pass criminal and/or driving history reference check; only information relevant to the position will be considered.

Essential Functions:

1.Serve as a role model to, and maintain appropriate peer-leader relationships with an assigned area of resident students.
2.Facilitate community development among roommates, suitemates, and floor members through effective availability, accessibility, interaction, outreach, and programming.
3.Engage in intentional conversations with resident students, identify any social and academic needs, and respond to them in a variety of means such as activities, programs, and individual/group interactions.
4.Respond to, document and report inappropriate or concerning behavior from resident students, staff, and guests according to established procedures and protocols.
5.Respond to, document and report emergencies according to established procedures and protocols.
6.Serve as a resource and act as a referral agent for resident students, parents, prospective students, and guests.
7.Assist with and complete housing operations administrative tasks, as assigned, both by fulfilling duties efficiently and by helping explain procedures to resident students.
8.Work closely with custodial and maintenance personnel to assist with the accomplishment of their goals as efficiently as possible.
9.Attend and actively participate in all scheduled time commitments.
10.Perform other duties as they pertain to the overall objective of the position, as assigned.

Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

Often work is performed at night and after regular working hours. Computer screen is used 25 percent of the time. Community Assistants must be able to do rounds through the building, walking the hallways and stairwells, and respond late at night while on duty. Extended standing with occasional lifting between 10-25 lbs. The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary telephonic conversations Must be able to climb or pull self upward and guide, feeding materials into proper position. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications:

1.At least one academic quarter of previous residential/communal living experience or the equivalent (i.e. residence hall, military barracks, etc.)
2.Successful completion of at least 12 credits at an accredited community college or university.
3.At the time of application, possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50

Special Qualifications:

1.Previous experience in COCC student housing is a plus.
2.At the time of application, have a maintained (each term) minimum GPA of 2.50
3.Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply.

Central Oregon Community College, the oldest two-year college in Oregon, provides comprehensive college services to the residents of its 10,000-square-mile district.

COCC offers two-year associate degrees, transfer/lower division programs, career and technical education degrees and certificates, developmental courses, continuing education and community learning classes, industry-specific training programs, and business management assistance.

The College's main campus is located on the western edge of Bend, a city known for its natural beauty and its proximity to diverse recreational opportunities. The location affords spectacular views of the mountains from nearly every point on the 201-acre campus. The Redmond Campus, located 20 miles north on 25 acres near the Redmond Municipal Airport, offers all of the courses necessary to earn an associate degree. In addition, it is the home of the Manufacturing and Applied Technology Center.

Thanks to a successful 2009 bond measure, COCC has constructed campus facilities in Madras and Prineville, opening the two campuses in 2011. In Bend, new health careers and science centers opened in 2012 as well as a technology center in Redmond.

A branch of Oregon State University is located on the Bend campus. OSU-Cascades offers upper division and graduate programs on the COCC campus.
