The School of Accountancy in the Robert C. Vackar College of Business & Entrepreneurship at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (http://www.utrgv.edu/cobe) invites applications for the position of the Director for the School of Accountancy. The position is at the rank of associate or full professor (preferred), and will remain open until filled. 01/14/2019 start date or negotiable. Our School research expectations reflect the university goal of becoming an emerging research university. Salary and benefits for this position are competitive.

•The school of Accountancy currently has a vibrant Master of Accounting Program offering two concentrations: Auditing and Taxation.
•The Robert C. Vackar College of Business & Entrepreneurship five-year strategic plan envisions the creation of a Ph.D. Program in Accounting, and a separate AACSB accreditation for the School of Accountancy. Currently, the College offers Ph.D. Programs in Finance, Information Systems, Management, and Marketing.
•Our School has the following databases subscriptions: Auditanalytics, Bank Regulatory, Blockholders Boardex, Computstat, CRSP, Dow Jones, Fama French & Liquidity Factors, Federal Research Bank, KLD, Penn World Tables, PHLX, Research Quotient, Sec Order Execution, Trace, Cusip, and WRDS. In addition to the databases provided, the UTRGV library also subscribes to Mergent Online and Lexis Nexis Academic Universe. Going forward, the PhD faculty and Associate Dean for Administration, Graduate Programs and Research will work with faculty to identify high priority databases that need to be added.
•As a distributed campus, UTRGV is spread across the Valley.

Minimum Qualifications

•Possess a doctorate degree (with concentration in accounting) from an AACSB accredited university/college.
•Be able to achieve tenure immediately following our College of Business and Entrepreneurship Tenure and Promotion criteria.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

•Strong, visionary and transformational leadership potential.
•Reputable record of scholarly work in high impact accounting and related discipline journals with demonstrable potential for future research and publications in those journals.
•Verifiable record of professional service to the accounting profession.
•Ability to communicate and work effectively in a participatory, collegial, culturally diverse environment.
•Willingness to maintain fruitful relationships with professionals in the community as well as productive community engagement/service.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.

    A New University with a Long History

    The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

     

    Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

     

    UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

    The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

    Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
