Data Analyst - Health Surveillance

Data Analyst - Health Surveillance, Office of the Senior Vice President for Research
This position plays an integral supporting role in the Health Data Analytics Program in the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research. Supporting the Program Director, the incumbent will work closely with clients (such as health department jurisdictions nationwide) to gather information regarding the functionality requirements for the ATra Black Box. S/he will maintain documentation of critical Black Box requirements, provide recommendations to the project team based on client feedback, and assist in the development of schematics of software rules, logic, and data processing/analytic components. Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Assist in the development of schematics of software rules, logic, and data processing/analytic components of the departments data analytic tools (ATra and AvesTerra).
  • Identify areas for modifications in existing health data programs and assist in the conceptual framework for developing these modifications with the Computational Research Specialist.
  • Utilize computer technology to manage information and design data validation systems for project input and output data.
  • Work closely with software programmer and other information technology professionals to provide health data focused support in the conceptualization and implementation of department projects.
  • Assist in conducting technical requirement sessions with clients (such as health department jurisdictions and federal agencies) regarding ATra functional requirements (e.g. integral involvement in defining software requirements based on information from the client's goals).
  • Utilize health surveillance principles to propose project enhancement and data related modifications to the department's data analytic tools (ATra and Avesterra).
  • Provide technical assistance and training to clients on various aspects of the software data outputs (e.g. utility of data outputs from a health surveillance framework).
  • Maintain documentation of critical input and output requirements (e.g. maintaining documentation that supports the development of various software systems including ATra Black Box software, ATra Verify program and data transmission tools used by clients).
  • Support the production of departmental reports to internal and external parties such as annual reports, technical meeting notes and data workflow documents.
  • Assist in the development of peer-review journal manuscripts.
  • Provide recommendations to the Program Director and Computational Research Specialist based on the client feedback, including data related processes (e.g. data related work flows, post data processing and data reporting).
  • Other duties as assigned, relevant to the health data analytics program.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree, Master's strongly preferred in public health with epidemiology concentration or related fields; Degree or background in data science, data analytics, computer science preferred
  • 3-years relevant experience
  • Knowledge of epidemiology and disease surveillance principles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working with large datasets and relational databases (ability to understand how the various source datasets are internally and externally related to one another)
  • Understanding of data structures, formatting, and standardization processes
