Prior to application, the applicant must have lived in any university housing for a minimum of one semester.

Applicants must show knowledge of the University and the residence halls.

Applicants must also have the following abilities:
- to communicate well in group and individual situations;
- to establish rapport with a wide variety of people;
- to design and implement experiences to meet specific established goals;
- and to quickly evaluate crisis situations and respond appropriately.

Staffing ReasonInstitutionalPrimary Responsibilities

The Resident Assistant is a student staff member of the Office of Residential Living who assumes major responsibilities in a resident hall or apartment community for developing a safe environment conducive to comfortable living, academic excellence and personal growth.

As part of their job, RAs serve as a role model for on-campus residents; this includes enforcing policies outlined by Residential Living and the university. As staff, the RAs plan activities and programs for the residents to build community and provide valuable resources for residents.

RA job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Organize and Facilitate programs for 40-80 residents
- Encourage diversity among residents and individual student’s growth
- Construct and maintain a conducive learning environment
- Address crisis and conflict situations and respond appropriately to community emergencies
- Promote and improve school spirit and community involvement among residents at residence hall and university programs
- Educate students about university and residence hall procedures, policies, and regulations
