DepartmentUnder the general day to day supervision of the Education Technology Specialist, and reporting to the Director, Education Programs & Administrative Services, the Education Technology Support Assistant provides application and client support to faculty members and staff and some student support in using web-based applications such as learning management and web content management systems and other applications (ex. websites based on the Drupal open-source content management system, various user authorization / identity management systems (like UTORid), various Division-specific web-based applications). These duties include: administers and supports the Faculty’s Learning Management System and the teaching and administrative tools in the platform, responds to a range of queries on supported faculty technologies and performs initial triage and escalates problems accordingly. Facilitates educational workshops and seminars and participates in the planning and delivery of application training programs; develops application support materials. The Education Technology Support Assistant will also provide programming and technical support for the in-house initiatives, in-house software products and third-party products at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy.

Campus(MINIMUM)

Education: Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Education, Engineering, or a related discipline, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Technical certifications (Adobe, Microsoft, Java) would be an asset.

Experience:  Three (3) years of related experience with technical support, including with academic, administrative, break and fix and troubleshooting responsibilities. Experience working with common academic technologies (LMS, webinar, and lecture capture) and delivering training content is required. Experience with technologies in a health sciences environment is an asset. Strong, demonstrated programming experience developing web-based applications using server-side development tools and frameworks such as Java, PHP, Ruby and Python and client-side Javascript. Experience developing the back-end PHP programming. Familiarity with programming tools, including Javascript libraries and REST APIs. Familiarity with programming for open source projects.

Skills:  Strong Blackboard, Canvas or other LMS knowledge, including knowledge of common issues and how they can be addressed; proficiency with the use of audio visual equipment; knowledge and troubleshooting with Blackboard Collaborate, Quercus, Clickers, Camtasia, Techsmith Relay, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, MS Outlook, Windows OS, MAC OSX, web browsers, Skype, YouTube and related platform technologies such as video encoders, video streaming and recordings; knowledge of social media integration; familiarity with mobile devices such as smart phones, tablets, and laptops. Facility with Wordpress and Articulate Storyline is an asset, as is facility with video/audio editing and recording. Knowledge of HTML/CSS along with web standards around usability and accessibility is an asset. Familiarity with teaching and learning support, online testing and proctoring, and the principles of instructional design is an asset.
