The Assistant/Associate Director reports to the Director of the Career Center which serves all University of La Verne undergraduate, graduate, CAPA, Regional Campus students, and alumni.

In partnership and under the guidance of the Director, the Assistant/Associate Director manages and provides program development, staff supervision, career counseling, data collection, diversity initiatives and supports employer relations in the absence of the Director.

Assistant/Associate Director must display a collaborative and cross functional approach to working with teams, resources and other business units.

Demonstrated ability to be innovative, systems thinker, capable to develop framework for individualized offerings to campus partners while showcasing career resources.

Ability to extract and integrate an understanding of counseling theory, career development into large/small scale programing, counseling and curriculum (i.e. LaVerne Experience).

The Assistant/Associate Director’s initiative is to be innovative, creative and comfortable designing framework/programming for internal campus partners aligning career development within the academic curriculum of a community.

This integration into campus initiatives will elevate the delivery of Career Development campus wide and increase employment opportunities for the University’s current students and graduates. Specific Duties

PARTNERSHIPS/PROGRAMMING:

  • Assistant/Associate Director will participate and/or lead development of learning outcomes for various department programs (career ambassador training, internship program, workshops and special events) that support the department’s mission, vision, and core values.
  • Assistant/Associate Director will regularly work with university faculty and coordinate college-specific outreach, customized seminars/workshops/programs among the Career Center based on student needs and campus requests.
  • Assistant/Associate Director will collaborate with faculty and staff from academic departments and the LaVerne Experience to facilitate campus partnerships through specialized content development and programming, and facilitate Career Counseling assignment to different constituency groups. Typical programs and workshops include club events, professional panels, department and individual college presentations and seminars.

DATA/TECHNOLOGY:

  • Assistant/Associate Director will be responsible for creating/developing departmental data to present to internal/external stakeholders. Reports will aim to measure and analyze student learning outcomes and Career Center and Employer Relations program effectiveness.
    Provide leadership and project management of Career Center initiatives, strategic goals, and career readiness. Provide project management and leadership focusing on integrating technology to better enhance and improve career services to meet the needs of students, alumni and employers.
  • Oversee program, evaluation, and assessment components of the Career Center to further establish learning outcomes, and strategic goals for career services programming, employer relations efforts and specialized programming.
  • Compile regular reports (using department database, strategically manage external partner contacts, analyze data for the various services offered by Career Center other tools as needed/assigned).
  • Develop/provide summary reports monthly and quarterly to the Director of the Career Center regarding (Career Center usage, internships/full time employment obtained, employer recruitment initiatives, campus visits as well as internal specialized programming that is being delivered by Career Services and Employer Relations.)
  • Monitor and report student interest and workplace/industry trends in order to help guide strategic planning and program initiatives.
  • Oversee and manage the collection of Career Services and Employer Relations first destination survey for undergrad, graduate and alumni.
  • Develop data campaigns to collect and benchmark all resources and programming to identify recruitment paths for industry leaders to solidify external partnerships with the academic community.

COUNSELING/TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT:

  • Support Director with implementation of internal internship program, career development core competencies and integration into student, faculty and staff training and campus programming.
  • Development and execution of comprehensive career counseling and virtual career development services for students and recent graduates, including training, scheduling, assessment of student learning and overall program evaluation.
  • Work with campus community to create collaborative efforts to engage students at all levels in the career development process, including various programs, workshops, events, and online activities.
  • Counsel graduate, alumni and traditional undergraduate students.
  • Support training of Career Center student staff (i. e. Career Ambassador Program, Graduate Interns on career development tools to better support campus partnerships, streamlining resources, strengthening career development delivery to the student community.
  • Skilled in facilitating, reviewing and implementing career related assessments. (i.e. Strength finder, Strong, MBTI)

EMPLOYER RELATIONS:

  • Assists the Director of Career Services to support pathway and engagement access to the University of LaVerne community to strengthen internships, and full time employment opportunities.
  • Serve as a liaison to the Director of Career Services and Employer Relations for external constituents who are interested in partnering within the academic community.
  • Develop and execute internal campus wide effort to respond to the career needs of our diverse student population and ensure program and services are in alignment with university and division strategic goals.
  • Work collaboratively with Career Center Director to create pathways on and off-campus to meet university strategic goals and increase employer engagement opportunities and partnerships to increase internship, job, and graduate school opportunities to students.
  • In conjunction with Director, Assistant Director will continue to build and increase a robust employer database and increase paid full-time, part-time, and internship opportunities for students, with university constituencies (i.e. faculty staff, students, alumni) and assist Director with external cultivation if need be.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director or Associate Dean.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Assistant/ Associate Director must be highly skilled with 3-5 years experience in program development, staff supervision, career counseling individual and group delivery, data collection, technology utilization and implementation, familiar with career related assessments and tools, diversity initiatives, and operations management.
  • Must possess superb verbal and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; be detail, goal and results oriented; be self-motivated with the ability to make high-level independent decisions; be collaborative and a team player; demonstrate sound judgment when dealing with a wide range of personalities, relationships and situations; possess the ability to maintain enthusiasm for hard work, changing priorities, and multiple deadlines, as well as the ability to interact well with a diverse community of faculty, students, and constituents.
  • Masters degree in a related area such as Student Affairs, Counseling, Business, Human Resources.
  • Experienced in working with Handshake or Symplicity.
  • Familiar with interpreting and delivering Career Assessments (i.e.Myers Briggs Personality Type (MBTI), StrengthsFinder, Strong Interest Inventory)
