Associate Dean

POSITION: Full-time, with faculty rank; non-continuing status track; 11-month Associate Dean appointment in the School of Humanities, Religion, and Social Sciences.

STARTING DATE:  July 1, 2019

ROLE

The successful candidate is expected to:

General Education – Traditional Undergraduate and Degree Completion

  • Create and sustain, in collaboration with others, a compelling vision for the general education curriculum;
  • Provide leadership on course development, curriculum development and implementation, course quality assurance and improvement for general education program in the traditional undergraduate and degree completion programs;
  • Oversee administrative functions and work with academic units to further develop, maintain, and schedule degree completion (DC) and traditional undergraduate (TUG) general education courses;
  • Design, administer and respond to general education assessment;
  • Chair the General Education Committee, with viable representation of both DC and TUG;
  • Continuous assessment of general education curriculum and alignment with FPU Idea, FPU Mission, and Market Viability, and connect to Institutional Learning Outcomes;
  • Continuous assessment of delivery modalities;
  • Develop and promote Summer Session offerings;
  • Supervise DC General Education Coordinator;
  • Supervise HRSS Program Assistant;
  • Responsibility for general education budget.

Honors Program

  • Oversee administration of the University Scholars Program;
  • Lead in the development and implementation of an Honors College;
  • Chair the Honors Council;
  • Coordinate Honors Society across all campuses;
  • Continuous assessment of “honors” curriculum and mentors;
  • Oversee the scholars’ banquet;
  • Oversee research day for both undergrad and grad;
  • Oversee the President and Dean Scholar Classes;
  • Responsibility for Honors Program budget.

First Year Experience (FYE)

  • Works with Vice President of Student Life/Office of Spiritual Formation in orientation of new students;
  • Chairs the First Year Experience (FYE) Committee;
  • Continuous assessment of First Year Student Learning Outcomes;
  • Implement college-level writing standards across the first year;
  • Oversee determination of academic course alignment;
  • Provide leadership for Freshman Seminar/Transfer Seminar.

Responsibilities in the School of Humanities, Religion, and Social Sciences

  • HRSS Program Development & Assessment;
  • Tracking and communicating submission of annual assessments and program reviews (23 majors)
  • Oversight of Syllabi Audit and IDEA evaluations
  • Timely communication / meetings with HRSS Program Directors
    • Catalogue updates
    • New curriculum approvals
    • Facilitating coherence between programs and GE
    • Monitoring Lead Instructors and course changes
  • HRSS Adjunct Hiring and Training;
  • Vetting applications / interviews
  • Training and development: best practices, FPU Idea, FPU systems updates
  • Divisional Leadership (contingent upon disciplinary expertise).

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Earned terminal degree;
  • Evidence of scholarly engagement and accomplishment;
  • Successful college/university-level teaching and administrative experience;
  • Potential for visionary and innovative leadership, including online education and distributed learning across multiple regional centers;
  • Knowledge/appreciation of diverse student populations and faculty;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and establish a common vision among faculty, students, and fellow administrators;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Commitment to the Christian faith and the University’s mission of Christ-centered teaching and learning and involvement in a local church.

COMPENSATION: Dependent on qualifications and experience, and paid out over 12 months. Full-time benefits include insurance (medical, vision, dental, LTD), retirement (TIAA-CREF), Section 125 options.
