Candidates with C-arm Fluoroscopy and thoracic and lumbar orthopedic imaging experience highly preferred.

General Description
The Duke Innovative Pain Therapies (DIPT) Radiologic Technologist is a nonexempt position responsible for operating X-ray and fluoroscopic equipment that assists radiologists and/or physicians with diagnosing and/or treating disease and/or injury.

At Duke Innovative Pain Therapies patients are offered advanced non-opioid pain therapies in a personalized environment that allows for optimal comprehensive, collaborative patient care from our specialists, which includes experts in acupuncture and Asian medicine, Pain management with biologic treatments, Psychology, Neurology, and Orofacial Pain.

Job Duties
1. Prepares patients for radiologic procedures. Protects patient, self, and other staff from radiation hazards. Takes X-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety, which involves setting up and operating radiographic equipment used in the medical diagnosis and/or treatment of patients and includes implementing infection control procedures for the work area. Selects proper ionizing factors for radiological diagnosis. Adjusts/sets radiographic controls. Positions patients and takes X-rays of specific parts of the patient’s body as requested by physicians. Processes film. Checks X-rays for clarity of image, retaking when needed. Distributes X-rays to appropriate medical staff.
2. Maintains required records including patient records, daily logbooks, and monthly reports. Performs quantity and quality control checks to assure X-ray unit meets standards required by laws, rules, and departmental policies. Complies with safety standards.
3. Cleans, maintains, and makes minor adjustments to radiographic equipment, including determining equipment repairs.
4. Maintains radiographic supplies, film, and orders as necessary.
5. Perform patient intake reviewing medical history, taking vital signs, medication reconciliation, confirming purpose of visit, falls risk, algometer reading, and learning assessments.
6. Direct and accompany patient to exam room; providing gowns as needed and chaperoning when required.
7. Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock.
8. Cross train as Patient Service Associate (PSA) for front desk responsibilities to include; scheduling patient appointments and referrals, sending DASH new patient assessments, patient check-in/check-out, verify insurance, obtaining authorizations, collecting copays and deductibles, and answering clinic phone.
9. Perform checks/Maintains clinic logs (for equipment/supplies, refrigerators, running controls, autoclave.
10. Participates in clinic or entity level Performance Improvement activities (DMAIC, Hand Hygiene, etc.)
11. Perform other duties incidental to work described herein.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge:
1. Knowledge of X-ray procedures and protocols.
2. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X-ray testing including body mechanics and patient movement.
3. Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology.

Skills:
1. Skill in positioning patients properly.
2. Skill in identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisor.
3. Skill in following infection control and radiological safety procedures.


Education Requirements/Preferences
Associate’s degree in radiological technology from accredited X-ray technician program.

1 year of experience in an procedural environment preferred

Duke University was created in 1924 by James Buchanan Duke as a memorial to his father, Washington Duke. The Dukes, a Durham family that built a worldwide financial empire in the manufacture of tobacco products and developed electricity production in the Carolinas, long had been interested in Trinity College.
