Job Description Summary
The Director of Graduate Career Services serves on the leadership team reporting to the Executive Director of Career Services. In this capacity this employee will be integral to strategic planning for all areas of University Career Services. To ensure Bentley's sustained recognition and strong outcomes for our students and graduates, this strategic role is designed to support the Executive Director, the entire Career Services department and the University in building an innovative, technology-forward, strategically focused, data-based Career Services department. The Director of Graduate Career Services also manages and defines career services' role with respect to alumni as it relates to life long career services.

Essential Duties
  • Provide leadership and strategic vision to the staff of the Graduate Career Center. Provides strategic direction of the Graduate Career Center and the execution of career services delivered. Duties include planning and management for graduate career services, including all operations and staffing matters. The Director ensures that Bentley graduate students are able to explore career options and identify opportunities that align with their goals, facilitates specialized programs and creates relationships to link students with employers and alumni, and works with employers to generate internships and full-time employment. Success is based upon innovation in career education, marketing, technology, and programming. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the office. Recruit, hire, train and manage related professional/administrative/contract staff.
  • Provide strategic and tactical leadership for team of career services professionals dedicated to the advising of all graduate students. Engage employers in the services and offerings of the university and center; effectively partner with related and relevant faculty and administrators; oversee the development and delivery of innovative career programming for constituents and represent the center and Bentley to current and prospective students and employers. Serve as a vital link between the needs and interests of this specified Bentley University student population and employers.
  • Provide oversight of team to ensure strong outcomes and to partner with Institutional Research on the first-destination survey and process. Focus on strong response rate and placement rates to build and maintain Bentley's market positioning. Clearly communicate institutional data to internal and external audiences. Gather and distribute data with external rankings groups or ad hoc internal reports.
  • Be respectful of diversity of the student population; make effort to work with cultural differences. Gain knowledge of CPT, OPT and visa issues by developing and maintaining strong relationship with the Center for International Students and Scholars office.
  • Partner with faculty, staff and student group leaders to develop effective outreach strategies to targeted student groups in order to deliver effective career development programming and recruiting services that meet the needs of students and employers.
  • Serves as an expert on industry and employment trends and partners with campus colleagues to enhance graduate students' career development
  • Initiates and maintains relationships with academic deans, faculty, advisors, and university administrators to enhance student growth and engagement, experiential learning, and post-graduation outcomes. Partner with graduate admissions and graduate advising for mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Serve as a liaison with potential employers of graduate students on a state, regional, national, and international scale. Conduct outreach to build new relationships with employers.
  • Manage and define services and staffing for alumni as it relates to alumni job search success.
  • Supervises two Senior Associate Directors, one Associate Director, one Executive Administrator Coordinator, Contract Employees for alumni and international students, and student employees.


Other Duties
  • Help staff develop state-of-the art online and in- class career programming.
  • Oversee and/or develop Graduate Center's technology, marketing and social media strategy.
  • Manage future technology projects including potential implementation of Salesforce.com and/or Handshake.
  • Program Design, Delivery and Assessment: Provide thought leadership around career development and preparedness for University Career Services programs.
  • Develop new programs and audit all existing programs by working across department. Build metrics for assurance of learning.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree required and 10 years of related career services/industry experience including a minimum of 3 years of prior supervisory experience.
  • Work experience that demonstrates knowledge of and interest in business/industry required.
  • Deep commitment to high quality work product and service and developing staff.
  • Technical skills include being familiar or able to quickly learn all career services vendor platforms, job recruiting system and social media outlets.
  • Proficiency with Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel @ 25%.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid, unrestricted United States driver's license, with an insurable driving history as determined by Bentley's insurance carrier.


Work Environment
  • Typical office work environment with extensive sitting and computer work.
  • May need to travel to outside conferences, events, and other meetings; travel may occur outside of standard business hours, including nights and weekends.
