PERFUSIONIST CHIEF  -  PERFUSION SERVICES (UPDATED 2/15/19)Occupational SummaryResponsible for the management and coordination of patient care, including personnel and fiscal activities on a unit(s) 24 hours a day. Develop and maintain care delivery systems and a team to meet patient care needs. Represents the interests of the department and hospital on committees and other public forums. Functions with the policies and procedures of the Health System and within the legal framework of the state.
 Work PerformedI. Job Responsibility 

  • Plan for the delivery of quality care in Perfusion Services Standard:
  • Collaborate effectively with all members of the healthcare team 
  • Maintain a staffing plan and schedule that meets patient care/unit needs
  • Effectively manage budget preparation and maintenance, in coordination with Heart Services Finance Manager
  • Provide effective communication with staff and other team members
  • Active role with the capital equipment process for Perfusion Services
  • II. Job Responsibility
  • Ensure competently delivered care for patients and their families Standard:
  • Maintain competency assessment system for staff
  • Ensure monitoring and evaluation of staff competencies, regulatory requirements, credentialing and accuracy and completeness of documentation
  • Oversee learning experiences of new and senior staff 
  • Utilize performance improvement data to plan for staff development and continuing education
  • Recruit, coach and counsel in conjunction with Associate VP for Heart Services
  • Serve as mentor for Associate Chief Perfusionists
  • Complete performance evaluations
  • Maintain clinical skills and routine clinical/OR contact
  • III. Job Responsibility 
  • Contribute to the professional image of the Periop Service Unit/ Heart Center Standard:
  • Role models professional expectations 
  • Promote and support clinical research
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, to include patient safety initiatives, cost saving strategies
  • Implementation of new techniques, equipment and programs to improve the delivery of patient care
  • Help facilitate departmental change processes
  • Remain current with trends and changes in practice
  • Participate in professional or volunteer organizations
  • Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge/skill demonstrated through successful performance appraisals Influential leadership as demonstrated by abilities to successfully transition teams through change

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education:  Completion of an accredited perfusion training program. Minimum B.S. degree.

    Experience:  Three (3) years experience as a Perfusionist. Management experience preferred.

    Degrees, Licensures, Certifications:  Certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion Validated for Basic Life Support and successfully complete JCAHO and other regulatory requirements within the probationary period.
