Job Summary:
The advisor reports to the Counseling, Advising and Transfer Center Manager and is responsible for providing assistance to students in academic planning and course selection. The advisor works closely with the Counseling, Advising and Transfer Center team and other departments to support student success. This position’s location is Sugar Grove campus, with other possible locations on occasion as needed.

Provide advising services to students, including course selection, degree audits and academic and transfer
planning.

Provide new student advising where needed. Assist with college-wide new student orientation programs.

Conduct initial intake process with students and refer to counselor for personal and career counseling as appropriate.

Provide transfer advising to students interested in attending four-year colleges and universities including
assistance with application and transcript processing.

Conduct advising outreach and support for students via phone, email and in person.

Interpret assessment results and explain placement process to students.

Provide evaluations for transcripts as well as assessment scores.

Attend any workshops as directed by the Manager of Counseling, Advising and Transfer Center Services.

Remain current on Waubonsee academic programs, college catalogs, transfer agreements and related materials and update colleagues as needed.

Provide phone back up and cover front desk when needed.

Perform other duties as needed.

Position Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required.

Two years of successful experience in position involving public contact in an educational setting or social service/customer service setting required. Experience with case management is a plus.

Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

Flexibility and ability to handle multiple priorities.

Excellent communication and human relations skills experience with diverse student populations.

Must be willing to work at more than one campus, work a maximum of two evenings per week and two Saturday shifts per year.
