Nature of Work

The position of Teacher will be to assist staff in executing the mission of the Minority Outreach Program. Hours during program operation may range from 20-30 hours per week. Some hours may be needed prior to the beginning of the program and immediately following the end of the program as assigned by the directors. Teachers will be in charge of roughly 20 students per period. They will be instructing those students in the subject matter related to Math, Reading, and Language Arts.

Essential Duties
  • Prepare lesson plans to fit individual students’ learning needs based on data provided by schools and/or other data gleaned from student transcripts.
  • Conduct class Sessions including all class activities, i.e. quizzes, assign students to tutors, tests, homework
  • Collaborate with College of Coastal Georgia staff and function as part of the instructional team
  • Keep detailed and accurate records of each student’s daily performance and attendance in an Excel spreadsheet
  • Prepare a written summary evaluation of each student at the end of the program
  • Refer students to the Counselor and follow up on results of the counseling session
  • Supervise breaks, lunch, and other activities as needed (i.e. field trips)
  • Attend staff meetings when requested
  • Assist with cultural events on Fridays as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by Program Directors
Minimum Qualifications and Training
  • Must be a licensed teacher in the state of Georgia
  • Must have experience teaching or working with children aged 8-13
  • Must possess strong customer service and communication skills
  • Must be dependable
  • Must have knowledge of general office equipment
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screen
  • Must demonstrate the ability to understand and carry out simple oral instructions
  • Must maintain a high level of professionalism
Preferred Qualifications and Training
  • Demonstrates excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates ability to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines
  • Present a professional appearance
  • Master’s degree preferred
