Job Details
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at The Ohio State University invites applications from outstanding individuals for a non-tenured research faculty position in the area of Automotive Control, Safety and Security, focusing on: 1. the control and energy management of connected passenger and commercial vehicles and of powertrain systems and subsystems such as, automatic transmissions, batteries and electric drives; and 2. system analysis and design of functional safety and cybersecurity measures for connected and automated vehicles. Successful applicants will recognize and promote the interdisciplinary nature of energy efficient, safe and secure vehicle research across multiple engineering units. The new faculty member will be expected to develop and sustain active sponsored research programs, advise MS and PhD students, and provide intellectual leadership and exhibit outstanding scholarship in their research field. Preference will be given to applicants at an associate research professor level, but all will be considered.

Candidates must have, by the start date, an earned doctoral degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or a related field, and at least 5 years of control systems expertise, including in-depth knowledge of control systems and powertrain energy management and vehicle functional safety and cybersecurity. Successful applicants for the position will possess expertise in the following fundamental and applied engineering disciplines: automatic control and system fault diagnosis, optimal powertrain control, look-ahead vehicle energy management, model- and data-based vehicle fault diagnosis, functional safety, and/or vehicle cybersecurity. Will have demonstrated ability to develop experimental data analysis, mathematical and computational models for control and diagnostics; proven ability to collaborate with automotive industry, national labs and federal agencies.
