Founded in 1955, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Einstein) is one of the nation's premier institutions for medical education, basic research and clinical investigation. A full-time faculty of some 2,000 conducts research, teaches, and delivers health care in every major biomedical specialty. The college has some 730 medical students, 193 Ph.D. students, 106 MD/Ph.D. students and 275 postdoctoral fellows. During fiscal year 2015, the faculty's consistently high level of scientific achievement resulted in the awarding of more than $150 million in peer-reviewed grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Einstein is part of Montefiore Medicine Academic Health System, an integrated academic delivery system comprising seven campuses, including 8 hospitals, a multi-county ambulatory network, a new state-of-the art “hospital without beds”, a skilled nursing facility, school of nursing, home health agency, and the state's first freestanding emergency department. As the University Hospital for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore is a premier academic health system, employing Einstein's clinical faculty and training Einstein's medical students, over 1,300 residents, 420 allied health students, and 1,600 nursing students annually.The Senior Paralegal provides support to the office of the general counsel for a variety of legal work and participates in preparing, reviewing and redacting documents, with emphasis on research contracts and research compliance. Also provide support in other areas, such as procurement and other contracts, immigration, legal research, policy review and drafting, and legal compliance issues.

Responsibilities:

Draft, review, revise, and negotiate contracts (primarily research and procurement contracs) under Senior Counsel or Assistant Counsel supervision and ensure compliance with College policies and procedures Assist with research compliance issues Proactively identifying potential legal risks and liabilities and solutions Assisting with completing necessary legal work within the bounds of legal and ethical rules Assists attorneys with legal research and preparation for internal hearings Gathers and reviews documents. Uses appropriate technology to prepare documents for production in response to records requests made pursuant to state and federal law or in connection with litigation Remain current with regulatory topics and best practices regarding compliance within higher education Completes projects as assigned by Senior Counsel / Assistant Counsel which require general knowledge of legal principles pertaining to the subject matter. Providing administrative support as requested. Experience and Educational Background: Bachelor's Degree Required Paralegal Certificate Preferred A minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience as a paralegal and experience in risk management, compliance and contract administration. Prior experience with scientific research and research contracts preferred. Experience in immigration, legislative matters, legal research, tax law, and legal compliance issues is useful. Skills and Competencies: Strong working knowledge of regulations governing colleges and universities Familiarity with standard contract provisions

Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, and ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times Ability to work with all constituencies with tact and diplomacy Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously with timeliness, thoroughness and accuracy Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, editing, and proofreading skills Demonstrated self-starter with an attention to detail who is both highly organized and a team player
