Title: Visiting Assistant Professor in Sociology

The Department of Sociology at Hartwick College invites applications for a full-time, 3-year term appointment at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor starting in August 2019, pending final administrative approval. We seek candidates who are prepared and interested in teaching introductory-level courses such as introduction to sociology and controversial social issues, as well as mid-level courses such as methods and theory. The ideal candidate will also have an interest in teaching courses related to social justice issues, such as race and ethnicity. Minimum qualifications include a PhD in Sociology or closely related discipline (ABDs may be considered).

  • The successful candidate must be committed to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching, active engagement in scholarly or creative activities, and working closely with students in a small college environment.
  • Teaching load will average 20 semester credit hours or their equivalent per academic year, and all faculty members teach during the College’s distinctive four-week January Term.
  • Committee service and academic advising also are expected with this appointment
