Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, statistics, economics, business administration or another related field;

3-5 years of experience in financial analysis, including experience with global finance and preparing and analyzing detailed budgets;

Ability to work with large quantities of data;

Exceptional analytical and communication skills.

Position Summary

This position will oversee assigned Study Away (Study Abroad and Field Study) programs. The position will work with both Study Away budget proposals and with program actuals to assess viability of the program, make recommendations, and ensure student refunds are calculated appropriately and accurately. The position will also act as a 1st level approver in the financial management workflow, communicate and liaise with business managers that work with Study Away programs, and calculate and report statistical information. This position will help ensure that all business activities are executed with a strong discipline surrounding internal controls and efficiency along with specific focus on adherence to USG, UGA, and Board of Regents policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Five years of professional (preferably university) accounting experience.

Reviews and evaluates Study Away program budget submissions; compares budget request to prior year data; evaluates for correct calculations; reviews exchange rate; reviews for policy adherence; makes recommendations to Financial Director for review and approval of budget; maintains database; initiates budget transfers of allocation funds; tracks allocation budgets.

Reviews submissions of program actuals reports from Study Away programming; evaluates for correctness; identifies errors and requests clarification and updates; calculates balances for close out; submits requests for student refunds; initiates transactions to program funds; maintains emergency contingency funds. Serves as first level approver for transactions initiated by staff accountants. May also initiate other transactions in Financial Management System, as needed.

Provides communications to Study Away program business managers, accountants and others via verbal and written means, to answer questions, provide guidance on policy and procedure, etc. Serves as a member of the Study Away program training team with duties including development and delivery of training both in classroom and in one-on-one settings. Assists in development of website, procedures manual and other related training materials.
