Career Counselor - Student Services

DescriptionThis is a part time position anticipated to work 13 hours per week.


The Offices of Academic and Student Affairs work with Cummings students and faculty on academic issues. The offices provide other school-related services including admissions, school records and financial aid.


Assist fourth year DVM students with the job-search process. Advise preclinical students about summer employment options. Review students’ resumes, C/Vs, and cover letters and provide related advice; provide coaching related to interviewing skills and contract negotiations. Maintain job listings and keep abreast of employment trends in the field and best practices. Advise students considering internships and residencies. Provide information related to the NAVLE application process. Advise students on career opportunities and professional relations. Collaborate with deans, and with other career professionals within the university. While primary assistance is to DVM students, guidance may be provided to graduate students and alumni.


QualificationsBasic Requirements:

Working knowledge of career-counseling/planning practices; understanding of the veterinary profession, minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.


Preferred Qualifications:

Veterinarian preferred, experience mentoring veterinary students a plus.


Special Work Schedule Requirements:

While the schedule will mostly be “fixed,” some flexibility will be required for occasional special programs and evening seminars.
