Adjunct Associate Professor of Speech Communications

Under the supervision of the Division Dean of Arts and Communication, the primary responsibility of this position is to teach students in the areas of Fundamentals of Speech, Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication, Argumentation and Debate, Oral Interpretation, and to serve as the Assistant Director of Forensics.

Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Coach individual events and debate for the Forensics Team. Travel with and judge for the Forensics Team at various tournaments throughout the country.
2. Teach basic, developmental, and advanced communication studies courses in both classroom and laboratory settings.
3. Assist in the development, evaluation and revision of courses and course materials.
4. Schedule and conduct student conferences, office hours and coaching sessions.
5. Assist in the Communication Skills Department in increasing enrollment through on- and off - campus activities such as Speech Night, high School speech tournaments, career days and intramural tournaments.
6. Serve on division - and campus-wide committees
7. Perform other related duties in the Arts and Communication Division. Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Speech Broadcasting, Telecommunication, Rhetoric, Speech Communication or Organizational Communication OR Bachelor's Degree in one of the above AND Master's Degree in Drama/Theater Arts, Mass Communication or English.
  • Experience in teaching Public Speaking, Argumentation and Debate, Forensics, Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication and Group Communication.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated experience teaching Communication Studies and Forensics
  • Earned Doctorate and post secondary teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated exemplary teaching practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collegial manner with students, staff and community groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach individual events and debate.
  • Demonstrated understanding and use of technology in the classroom.
