To provide specialized, short-term instruction to Verizon Grant Summer Camp students.Information for This Posting Only

Instructor will work with Verizon Grant Summer Camp students at the Elgin Campus.
Instructors will have support of the Verizon Innovative Learning Grant Co-Directors who will manage the day-to-day operations of the camp.Description of Duties and TasksEssential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides specialized, short term instruction to middle school students.
  • Develops and correlates curriculum and instruction to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards within the respective content area.
  • Utilizes best practices in regard to classroom management in order to foster student persistence and success.
  • Collaborates closely with Summer Camp personnel to maximize academic benefits for each individual student.
  • Attends program meetings as assigned.
  • Manages time and classroom effectively.
  • Maintains up-to-date records of student grades and progress.
  • Assists with additional summer program duties as assigned.
  • KnowledgeMust possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

    Knowledge of current education and instructional theories, methodologies, techniques, and principles.     Maintaining an established work schedule. Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials. Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills including tact, patience, diplomacy, sensitivity, and flexibility as it relates to working with students from varied socioeconomic backgrounds and learning styles. Effectively using organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow-through. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with people of diverse backgrounds, including students, instructors, tutors, and staff. Ability to apply knowledge of current education and instructional theories, methodologies, techniques, and principles. Ability to apply knowledge of the subject area.Technology Skills

    Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications.<br />Required Work Experience

  • At least one year of related experience in the discipline.
  • Preferred Work Experience

    Experience developing and preparing course materials/syllabi. Experience delivering lectures, leading discussions and/or laboratory experiments. Experience conducting evaluations of student performance and assignment of grades.Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in the teaching discipline.
  • Other Preferred Qualifications

    Valid Texas State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) credential. College-level teaching experience can substitute for the teaching certificate. Familiarity with STEM areas of study.Physical Requirements

    Work is performed in a learning lab environment on campus in an academic setting. Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Occasional lifting of objects up to 20 pounds.Safety
